Another from my personal collection! Purchased from new and barely ever played, perhapes only  two or three times if that! (so rare to ever find like this, over 40 years old) This has been stored in a case with the vinyl seperated from the sleeve and cover, this is how I have always stored my records! I have decided to list this awesome early very obscure  album due to the fact that it is so rare to find in this condition.  In virtually unplayed condition like this! I must stress that with this album, ! This vinyl and audio is truly (truly) exceptional throughout!. A true joy to listen to and a great album!! This is exceptional and is highly collectable in this condition! This looks and plays awesome throughout!  The audio separation is outstanding a real deep bassey feel! quite rare to find! Features the original very fragile, Shorepak Un-Laminated Cover in absolutely exceptional condition also!

The Inner Mounting Flame is Mahavishnu Orchestra's first studio album, released in 1971 and consisting solely of original compositions by John McLaughlin. The track "You Know, You Know" was sampled in Massive Attack's "One Love", Mos Def's "Kalifornia", Black Sheep's single "Similak Child", David Sylvian's "I Surrender", Cecil Otter's "Rebel Yellow" and Blahzay Blahzay's "Intro" from Blah Blah Blah album.

The intro for "Noonward Race" was written for the full band and not just as a guitar-and-drums duet as heard on the album. During the recording of the piece, a long-standing tension between Rick Laird and Jerry Goodman boiled over into a full brawl, with the two of them knocking Jan Hammer and his keyboards over during the struggle.

McLaughlin and Cobham continued to play at full volume during the entire altercation, and McLaughlin liked the effect so much he instructed Laird, Goodman, and Hammer to sit out while he comped behind Cobham's solo later in the song. The Mahavishnu Orchestra was the name of two jazz-fusion groups led by John McLaughlin, in 1971–1976 and 1984–1987.
The band's original lineup featured "Mahavishnu" John McLaughlin on acoustic and electric guitars, with members Billy Cobham on drums, Rick Laird on bass guitar, Jan Hammer on electric and acoustic piano and synthesizer, and Jerry Goodman on violin.

This first incarnation of the ensemble was a multinational group: McLaughlin is from Yorkshire, England; Cobham from Panama; Hammer from Prague, Czechoslovakia; Goodman from Chicago, Illinois; and Laird from Dublin, Ireland. This group was considered an important pioneer in the jazz fusion movement.

McLaughlin and Cobham met while performing and recording with Miles Davis during the Bitches Brew sessions. McLaughlin was also influenced in his conception of the band by his studies with Indian guru Sri Chinmoy, who encouraged him to take the name "Mahavishnu" which means "Divine compassion, power and justice." or simply "Great Vishnu", an aspect of Vishnu. McLaughlin had particular ideas for the instrumentation of the group, in keeping with his highly original concept of genre-blending in composition.

He particularly wanted a violinist as an integral contributor to its overall sound. As the group evolved, McLaughlin adopted what became his trademark—a double neck guitar (six-string and twelve-string) which allowed for a great degree of diversity in musical textures—and Hammer became one of the first to play a Mini Moog synthesizer in an ensemble, which enabled him to add more sounds and solo more freely, alongside the guitar and the violin.

Their musical style was an original blend of genres: they combined the high-volume electrified rock sound that had been pioneered by Jimi Hendrix (whom McLaughlin had jammed with on his initial arrival in New York as part of the Tony Williams Lifetime), complex rhythms in unusual time signatures that reflected McLaughlin's interest in Indian classical music as well as funk, and harmonic influence from European classical music.

The group's early music, represented on such albums as The Inner Mounting Flame (1971) and Birds of Fire (1973), was entirely instrumental; their later albums had songs which sometimes featured R&B or even gospel/hymn-styled vocals. In the aforementioned two albums, the group goes from an energetic fusion of upbeat genres (a representative example of which is the song "Vital Transformation") to very serene, chamber music-like tunes, such as "A Lotus On Irish Streams," a composition for acoustic guitar, piano and violin, and "Thousand Island Park," which drops the violin and incorporates double bass; or from low-key to extremely busy in a single piece, such as "Open Country Joy."

On initial inspection this looks like new, awesome super original glossy sheen from new still retained a beautiful looking vinyl! Initially I can hardly see a blemish at all, and in my opinion looks like new!  In strong light only could possibly very few surface marks be seen (mainly sleeve removal only)! Which have very little if (no) effect on the awesome playback.

The Audio

I have played this through track for track on a top system at very loud volume! The audio is awesome Top sounding on all frequencies! Super Super seperation! Cristal clear and vibrant with (no) signs of distortion or that this has been overplayed at all  Please note! Quite amaizingly I never heard any major interfearance at all (no) distortion (no) usual background static crackle this is quite exceptional indeed considering there are many quiet passages during the play of this album ! ! THIS IS EXCEPTIONAL AUDIO! Must be at least Excellent plus to Near as Mint in my opinion!

 Absolutely superbe!!A very playable vinyl with just minor isolated light static/  that perhapes might not even be noticable on some systems, Please note that I play test these vinyls at very loud volume and i would class myself as extreemely critical!.

Please note! It is easy to be critical about these 70s pressings especially the fact that there are so many many quiet tracks!,, Please allow for some light static /ticks (not) consistant throughout the audio! ,Although I never heard any problems ,Please remember that this is a 40 year old vinyl that would have originally been played on a 40 year old system!

A constant clean is recomended before each play. This vinyl has been stored in a case for at least 30 years or more laying dormant! A build up of dirt and dust in the grooves causes static crackle\ticks and constant cleaning reduces this!!

The labels

These feature the original CBS labels in superbe condition! Amaizingly I find it difficult to see no more than one spider mark on each side even when angled in strong light.(This has barely ever been played no more than two or three times of times if that. unbeleivable to find) This certainly has not been overplayed in my opinion! Little if (no) spindleware the hole is perfectly round a real beauty!

This is the original CBS serpier sleeve with no splits or tares light creasing with age only! This is the original and hard to find complete in this condition

The Cover

This is the original early very fragile un-laminated SHOREWOOD PACKAGING PRINTED cover! In awesome condition (rarely seen like this! (AMAIZINGLY No real nasty creases to talk of (If you can see any creases they are very fine only) (no) nasty splits , or tares!! UNBELEIVABLE CONDITION SUPERBE SPINE! ! Please note! This features the original fragile, dark BLACK FRONT AND REAR COVER (Very hard to keep in good condition)  Any storage ware/markings/ring ware or rubbing at the edges you would have to look for to notice any and are very light. There is just very feint vinyl impression noticed if looked for worth to mention only. This must be at least Excellent if not better in my opinion very hard to find like this!
