One of the most unique & strange recordings ever made!! This is the private pressing, released by the artist himself, "Vision Soundings" by Malcolm Goldstein released in the early 80's. On this record, Goldstein creates a musical universe of his own consisting of a piece for maple tree limb(!!!) and vocals solo(somewhere in between on Arza Anaiak and Charlemagne Palestine), named "Vision Tree Fragment". The artist uses a dry limb, alive for a hundred years or more and implies that "wisdom of time teaching me to play(rubbing wood upon wood) the convolutions of age, the resonance of spaces living the gesture; teaching me to sing". On the other side of the record, one finds an improvised violin piece, creating a "soundings structure" responding to a sound/theater ritual of the artist "Marin's Song Illuminated"...becoming a sound/space to entre and re-enter, flying the thoughts of shaman/bear after an "Eskimo vision event". Pieces performed and recorded at the Experimental Intermedia Foundation with Phill Niblock and at Roulette with Jim Staley. A MUST to discover!! Highly recommended record here!!

Malcolm Goldstein (b. March 27, 1936, Brooklyn, New York). American composer, now resident in both Canada and the USA, of mostly chamber and electroacoustic works that have been performed throughout the world; he is also active as an improviser and violinist. Mr. Goldstein attended Columbia University from 1952-59, where he studied composition with Otto Luening for one year and where he earned his BA and MA. He later studied violin privately with Antonio Miranda in New York City from the mid- to late 1960s. As a performer of new music, he has been active as an improviser, violinist and vocalist and has also played various found and natural objects, as well as other instruments. As a violinist, he performed with the Judson Dance Theatre in New York from 1962-64, the New York Festival of the Avant Garde in the 1960s and the Experimental Intermedia Foundation in New York in the 1960s. Since then, he has performed primarily as a soloist, both in improvised and notated music. With Philip Corner and James Tenney he co-founded the Tone Roads Chamber Ensemble in 1963, a new music group that performed until 1970. He later served as director of the New Music Ensemble of Dartmouth College in the 1970s and of the Hessischer Rundfunk Ensemble für Neue Musik in Frankfurt/Main in the 1990s. As a writer, he has contributed articles about improvisation to various journals, notably Perspectives of New Music, many of which appear in From Wheelock Mountain: Music and Writings by Malcolm Goldstein (1977, in Pieces: A Profile, edited by Michael Byron). In addition, he wrote the book Sounding the Full Circle: Concerning Music Improvisation and Other Related Matters (1988, self-published, now available through the McGill University Project On Improvisation). Mr. Goldstein was commissioned by the Charles Ives Society to prepare critical editions of Symphony No. 2 in 1976 and String Quartet No. 2 in 2002, both by Charles Ives.

A very important artist record, like those that you can find inside the Broken Music book, which features the records of Joseph Beuys, La Monte Young, Yoshi Wada and Marcel Duchamp and Kurt Schwitters, Jean Dubuffet, Milan Knizak and of course Yoko, Walter Marchetti, of the great sound poets Henri Chopin, Bernard Heidsieck or the sound art of Paul Panhuysen, Harry Bertoia or the indeterminacy of John Cage. The music reminds a little bit the experimental scene of the 70's with abstract aesthetics, like Pierre Schaeffer, Detoni, Ragnar Grippe and Arne Nordheim, Andre Almuro, Alvin Lucier and Alvin Curran and of course Eimert, Parmegiani, Stockhausen and Pierre Henry, Xenakis, Richard Maxfield, while Conrad Schnitzler and Die Todliche Doris fans should be dissapointed. Very rare, get this now!! Very rarely seen on ebay!!

The vinyl lies in very fresh-unplayed condition, while cover looks mint-, nearly new!! Extremely difficult  to find, don't lose this chance to grab it now!!
