Description
MAMA LION Mama Lion (Rare original 1972 UK Philips label 10-track vinyl LP,'6369153). Housed in the controversial die-cut gatefold picture sleeve with internal pocket. the vinyl is excellent - the "bars" on the cage on the cover have been sellloptaped and need repair, otherwise the cover show mimimal signs of age, the inner picture sleeve still is still an eye opener .
Produced by Neil Merryweather, Mama Lion were a group destined to show off the Joplinesque voice of Lynn Carey, a sculptural blonde beauty previously in Ivar Avenue Reunion. As often with the Merryweather outputs, the music is a rather loose mix of blues and rock. Their records are now mostly remembered for their sleeves, especially the first with Lynn Carey breastfeeding a lion cub.
Lynn Carey famously provided vocals for Russ Meyer's Beyond The Valley Of The Dolls, and was chosen to be a Penthouse Pet of the month in December 1972
