Mama Lion

Preserve Wildlife

Very Rare Original US Psych Rock LP released on Philips Records in 1972. 1st UK pressing on the Black Label, the gatefold sleeve is die-cut on the front (centre bar is missing).

Mama Lion was formed in Los Angeles after singer Lynn Carey together with bassist Neil Merryweather leave "Ivar Avenue Reunion" to form a new group called "Lynn Carey & Neil Merryweather" the group did not last long and then this pair recruit musicians, Rick Gaxiola (guitar), James Newton Howard (keyboards / vocals) and Coffi Hall (drums / percussion), and so in 1971 would form the Mama Lion.
The group has a blues rock, the beautiful Lynn Carey with his vocals "Jopliniano" are the highlights. Yes, the vocals are similar to Janis Joplin, but with a lower tone and a voice that sometimes resembles the old blues singers.
Their records are widely regarded by their covers, especially the first which shows Carey Lynn breastfeeding a lion cub.
