An often misunderstood album, this album (aside from the 1971 "reunion" album) was the final record by the Mamas & the Papas. It has held up incredibly well over time, and sounds better today than when it was released in mid-1968. The centerpiece of the album is "Dream a Little Dream," which very well may be the finest cover version that the group ever recorded, and in the end, was a very nice way to end the group's short but incredible career. The album also contains some excellent John Phillips material such as "12:30" (a minor hit), "Rooms," and "Too Late." These three tracks form a mini-medley in the middle of the second side, and add a lot of dimension to the record. Cut at the Phillips' home studio, the album has a simple sound, but when the vocal majesty cuts through on such tracks as "Mansions" (one of the band's lost masterpieces), it's faultless.

The Mamas and the Papas final hour was their finest.  One track alone, the dark, ominous “Mansions” has got to be the finest example of the West Coast group harmonies circa psychedelic era, and it may well anticipate the arrival of Charles Mansion and his cohorts in both the mood and the title. Frankly, we don’t even know if the title of the song is a pun on Manson’s name or not. Who cares – it is a piece if indescribable,  dark, haunting beauty.

The so-called "MINI" (or Juke Box) LPs ARE NOT to be confused for regular 7-inch, 4-track EPs which were widely commercially available. The 7-inch MINI LP's were made EXCLUSIVELY for use in Jukebox machines or for other promotional purposes and were usually accompanied by the set of 4- or 6 jukebox labels (usually, but not always, replicating the original cover artwork). The MINI LP's were NEVER commercially available in any way, manner or form, and are usually NOT listed as a separate category in the record collecting price books and directories. Unlike EP records which usually came with 4 tracks (2 on each side), MINI LPs were exactly what the name suggests: a mini version of the complete 12-inch album, usually with 2, 3 (or even 4!) tracks on each side. MINI LPs were, therefore, supposed to be representative snapshots of the artist's latest album. We proudly present here a mighty rare specimen of the original JUKEBOX LP. Mouthwatering is the right word here. Good luck finding one of these anywhere!

(a)          WE GRADE THE VINYL AS EXCELLENT. This is one of those albums that are somewhat difficult to grade. It is somewhere between VG++ and NEAR MINT, just a notch below NEAR MINT. A few light abrasions ARE visible, but they are extremely shallow, superficial  and only moderately visually distracting (nothing significant).For the most part, the vinyl looks impeccable without any MAJOR visual flaws or imperfections. Much of the original luster is intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.

(b)            The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(c)           Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

THE COVER IS NICE --- ABOUT VERY GOOD+(+)

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-         Cover has some light ring wear (nothing significant); On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and  10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 4

-         The cover has circular tarnish (grayish, dust-covered sections, which closely follow the contour of the record),  probably caused by friction or by rubbing against other covers during the storage. The tarnish is similar in appearance to a common ring wear, but, UNLIKE ring wear, these grayish areas may be possible to clean up with a minor effort and with a right cleansing solution.

-         Cover shows some light yellowing on both sides, apparently from aging   (nothing significant).

-         Cover has a few tiny wrinkles along the top seam

-         Cover has two corners slightly worn / frayed / bent (just a beginning of the split seam)

-         Back cover has some light yellowish stains, probably from exposure to humidity.

NO OTHER IMPERFECTIONS ON THE COVER:

-        No cut-out (drill) holes.

-        No cut-out corners

-        No saw-marks or indents

-        No writing

-        No stamps

-        No peel-off marks

-        No mold or mildew spots

-        No stickers or labels

-        No water damage

-        No razor marks, scratches, pressure marks, lines, streaks, or  cuts.

-        No warping

-        No wax, glue, paint or liquid drops on the cover

-        No glue traces or wax residue.

-        No bar codes

-        No RIAA stamps or stickers.
