About “Crazy Blues"
EARLY in 1920 music publisher Perry Bradford arranged for the Afro-American blues singer Mamie Smith to record. Her first record was cautious-- two pop tunes with a white studio orchestra. A few months later Bradford convinced A&R man Ralph Peer that recordings directed mainly to the Afro-American market by Afro-Americans, could be successful -- This is the result: Crazy Blues/Its Right Here For You which also includes pianist Willie The Lion Smith and other excellent musicians from Harlem's famed Clef Club. This is not only the first blues recording, but the first record aimed specifically toward the Afro-American market.
.I use standard VJM 78 record grading method with grades of: E+, E, E-, V+, V, V-, G+, G, G-, and P in descending order. See grading info in pics. I do not grade 78's at M or M- as I can not be certain that they have NEVER been played. G- and P records are only listed if they are extremely rare or of significant historical value.
