Manfred Mann, Soul Of Mann.
Original 1967 UK pressed EMI/HMV Records mono LP, CLP 3594.
A very early pressing on the first black, red and silver label, with matrix numbers: 2XEA 3116-1 / 2XEA 3117-1, and mothers/stampers: A 1 / R 1.
Vinyl in near mint condition. Just a few wispy spider trail marks are visible at centre spindle areas. Vinyl surfaces have a high gloss still and are free of any marks. Clearly a little played and very carefully handled LP.
Playback has been tested in entirety, not just sampled, and is superb throughout. The early pressing has a really vibrant mono punch and is free of distortion or groove wear. There is no background crackle, and there are no ticks or clicks. Run ins and band separators are noticeably free of any background noise. In audio terms this will be a tough one to upgrade.
Labels are bright and undulled and free of damage or inscriptions.
Inner sleeve is plain white paper, and in good condition. Presumably the original, as it has the catalogue number of the LP neatly penned to one top corner.
Main sleeve grades as top end VG, and is very near EX. Still very bright, clean and presentable. No sticker marks, pen marks, or surface loss. No scrapes or dinks. The front panel is laminated and still has a deep and rich lustre with unfaded colours. Displays just a very few of the tiniest hairline pinch marks and one small half moon. There is just the vestige of a ringwear impression mark, but this is really minimal and visible only when sleeve is rotated beneath a light source.
Note that this highly glossy predominantly black sleeve is a nightmare to photograph accurately. Any white patches which are visible are reflections, and not imperfections.
Unlaminated rear panel has a stamped 'D1' and very minor tan stain to top right corner, else is in very clean condition with just a fraction of natural age toning. Visible backflaps are all in good order. Entry side is still crisp and firm with no feathering. Edges and tips are really well preserved and in excellent shape. No seam splits, fraying or chipping, and tips have barely any rubbing.
All in all, a really superb issue of this great Mod/Psych/Beat outing, which is one of the scarcest of the original 1960's Manfred Mann LPs.

A Note On Grading:Note that audio grading is subjective and based on sensitivity of equipment used for playback. In this instance playback has been tested on a vintage Technics Quartz Direct Drive SL1700 MKII turntable with Shure cartridge, Technics SU-C 03 amp and Technics SB-F2 Linear Phase speakers.
Also note that I generally do not clean vinyl unless so noted. Most vinyl will show improved playback quality with your preferred cleaning method, but I leave this to the prospective buyer, as controversy still surrounds the ideal method of cleaning vinyl.
