Description

BRUN CAMPBELL was a runaway teen in 1897, when he settled in Sedalia Missouri.  There, he met and befriended Ragtime Master SCOTT JOPLIN, who personally taught him piano, and how to play the "MAPLE LEAF RAG." Joplin's only white pupil played the piece for the rest of his life, just as instructed.  Campbell made this single-sided record of it in 1947, thus preserving Scott Joplin's tempo and pianistic attitude - making it a priceless document of early ragtime.

This original ca. 1947 un-numbered Brun Recording Co. disk is in practically new condition.

(by the way, I live right around the corner from 711 Venice Boulevard, the address of Mr. Campbell's barber shop, and headquarters for his business, where you could always find a copy of this record! The place is STILL a hair salon!!)

*****

These records come from my private collection, which I have been accumulating since 1967, and now am downsizing!  My highest priority in these eBay auctions is to give you the best possible idea of a record’s true condition and aesthetic value.  I always post at least four clear images, showing the record fore and aft, a close-up of the label, and the whole disc, warts and all.  If my purple prose won’t cut it, the pictures will!  Shipping is done with expert care. Your record will brave Media Mail in a stout corregated box, between four sheets of cardboard and a couple of “packers.”  I hope you are amused by these descriptions, and by the quality of service being offered.

An Unsolicited Testimonial!: "Superbatone is one of the coolest people on eBay - seriously. An excellent source for music, knowledge, and whimsy, and an asset to the community who cares about music and its preservation. It goes without saying that he is an expert in all facets surrounding 78’s and their content."

And another:  “Descriptions as passionate and informative as superbatone’s are commensurate with what you receive: beautiful records, fast service - and even his writing on the shipping box is interesting, artistic, and indicative of the care taken for these records and to transport them safely.”
