MAQUINA – Why?  Guerssen Records GUESS 178. Spanish release. SEALED NEW VINYL RECORD ALBUM. Originally issued in 1971, though recorded in the spring of 1970. This edition issued in 2021. Includes obi band and features the original artwork along with detailed liner-notes with photos insert. Comes in a resealable clear mylar sleeve, as shipped by the label. MEMBERS:  Jordi Batiste (vocals, bass, flute), Josep Maria Paris (guitar [fuzz]), Lluis Cabanach (guitar [wah wah]), Enrique Herrera (Hammond organ, piano), and Josep Maria ‘Tapi’ Vilaseca (drums).

DESCRIPTION:  From Catalonia, Spain (the northeastern region) and based out of Barcelona. Máquina! was a pioneering band that broke the mould of their 60s musical forebearers. To start with, they distanced themselves from other bands in Barcelona such as Sirex and Los Salvajes and they went for a more international sound, singing in English. What's more, their record sleeves featured abstract artwork created by Jordi Batiste that was revolutionary in design and concept, (think of some of those early German and English prog covers), placing the band closer to the Anglo-Saxon and European worlds of emerging progressive rock, which musically they well accompolish here. Máquina was founded by Enric Herrera along with Jordi Batiste; Herrera was influenced by the likes of John Mayall and Soft Machine while Jordi Batiste showed more interest in Paul McCartney's music. It was exactly that difference that later caused the two musicians to grow apart in terms of their ways of conceiving music. In the beginning, however, it created a magical chemistry that resulted in the music that makes up this album, which has achieved great critical and public acclaim over the years. This line-up would soon break up with Herrera and Bastiste recruiting new members issuing one final album in 1972, En Directo, which adds a horn section having more jazz, blues, and soul influences, yet still retains that heavy sound of their debut album. Drummer Josep Maria ‘Tapi’ Vilaseca would soon go on to form his namesake band, Tapiman, who in 1971 would issue their self-titled debut album, one of Catalonia’s (Spain) most famous and significant hard rock trio album’s of all time.

All LPs are removed from their jackets and placed outside of the jacket for shipping. If an album comes sealed (and will be noted as such in the above description), it will be shipped whole unless you request that I open it up to place the disc outside of the jacket for shipping. Both jacket and disc are placed inside of an outer plastic sleeve before packing for shipping. I use professional corrugated record mailers with inside packing.

MIX:  This sometimes appears in my title line and refers to a group's/artist's music having a mix of styles such a rock track with jazz then followed by a straight rock track followed by a psych rock track, etc., as opposed to a blues album with the album's tracks having predominantly one style.

U.S. Shipping: 

$4.90 via USPS Media Mail for the first single LP or double disc LP set (excluding box sets); this also includes tracking. Check your eBay Purchases folder for tracking and shipping information.

$1.25 for each additional single LP set and/or

$1.50 for each additional double LP set.

All US packages are processed for shipping via eBay and include a tracking number. Check your purchases folder to monitor your tracking.

Shipping on multiple item purchases is based on weight at the current rate.
