This is the original 1971 1st UK issue on the black B&C label (with green logo), housed in the rare textured sleeve with rear flaps and lyric insert.
This is a good copy of this folk rock album which by virtue of the players skilfully marry's the classic Fairport Convention sound of the time with late 60s/early 70s California country rock. The impressive cast list includes Sandy Denny, Dave Pegg, Richard Thompson, Dave Mattacks and Ian Mathews making a good case for this being a stand alone Fairport Convention album but the country rock flavours come courtesy of Chris Hillman, Sneaky Pete and Flying Burrito Brother Rick Roberts.
This album came from a music business employee's collection and clearly has been played just once or twice. However whilst the vinyl has its original full gloss sheen there are two marks on track 4 on side one. I suspect they were caused at the factory but while the track plays through they do 'pop' as you play over them. However they do not run across the whole track. The second runs just very slightly into the first few seconds of the intro to the 5th track. There are however no further scratches or hairlines. Consequently I'd grade this as VG+ 1st issue copy.
The sleeve is in near mint condition which is incredible for this album. Every copy I have seen previously has by virtue of the complicated connecting rear flaps been ripped or torn.There are no tears or splits with this copy, there is no writing on the sleeve, there are no bends and aside from some minor, barely visible ring wear at the top front of the sleeve and some minor edge scuffing it would be difficult to upgrade or improve on this sleeve.
The inner lyric sleeve is in perfect condition with no tears or creases.
The record labels are in mint condition. No writing, no spindle wear.
