GRADAZIONE RIGOROSA - STRICTLY GRADED

Copertine e vinili sono visualmente gradati dopo un’attenta osservazione sotto la luce del sole fatta sulla mia terrazza a tetto. Nelle giornate grigie il controllo viene effettuato sotto una forte lampada alogena con l’aiuto di una lente d’ingrandimento. Tutti i dischi in asta sono stati interamente ascoltati, i 33 giri su un giradischi Rega Planar 3 fornito di una testina a magnete mobile Grado Statement 1 mentre gli EP e i singoli a 45 giri con un Thorens TD 166 BC fornito di una testina, sempre MM, Goldring 1006. Ritenendo che le abituali classificazioni quali Mint, Ex, Vg, ecc., ecc… siano poco significative per spiegare le reali condizioni dei dischi ed anche estremamente soggettive, precedo sempre tali classificazioni con una breve descrizione degli eventuali difetti che ho riscontrato, ad eccezione di Mint- che il più alto grado che conferisco a qualsiasi disco. Soltanto per le copie ancora sigillate all’origine utilizzo MINT/MINT.

Sleeves and vinyls are visually graded after a careful check in bright sunshine on my roof terrace. In the gray days I watch the records under a strong halogen lamp with the help of a magnifying glass. All records in auction have been fully heard. Lps on a Rega Planar 3 turntable with a Grado Statement 1 moving magnet cartridge, EPs and singles 45 rpm. on a Thorens TD 166 BC turntable with a Goldring 1006 MM cartridge. Considering that the usual classifications such as Mint, EX, Vg, etc…, etc… are not significant to explain the real condition of the records in addition to a total subjectivity of opinion, I always introduce before these classifications a short description concerning any defects I have verified with the exception of Mint minus, the highest grade I declare. I use MINT/MINT exclusively for the still from factory sealed copies.

Note : desidero far notare che non tutte le musiche presenti nel disco sono state composte da Marc Lanjean. Infatti, due tracce (a2, a3) sono firmate Roger Roger, un eccellente compositore Francese di partiture per film e documentari, di musica classica ed elettronica e di canzoni pop. Inoltre un brano è firmato da tutti e due (b3). Quanto detto adesso potrebbe essere stato causato dalla morte di Lanjean nel febbraio 1964 e considerando che l'anteprima del film ebbe luogo il 5 Aprile del 1964 non si può escludere che Roger Roger sia stato chiamato per terminare le musiche. Naturalmente è solo una mia supposizione, d'altronde tutte le filmografie riportano fra i compositori della colonna sonora anche Giovanni Fusco che non è presente in questo EP, almeno stando a quanto scritto nei crediti del disco. Forse per motivi contrattuali oppure le sue musiche furono concepite unicamente per l’edizione Italiana del film o ancora non sono mai state pubblicate per motivi sconosciuti. Ai posteri l'ardua sentenza. Dramma e avventura si combinano nella trama del film ambientato nella penisola Indocinese. Tutto questo è ben riflesso nella colonna sonora. Il primo brano è una marcia militare ricca di enfasi epica sottolineata dall'intenso movimento dell'orchestra. "Epopée" (a2) ha carattere drammatico ben espresso da sonorità, particolarmente delle percussioni, che aumentano e calano il ritmo più volte, poi nella parte finale la musica riprende il carattere epico della prima traccia. "Thème Viet" concede un attimo di quiete con musica tradizionale del Sud-est Asiatico caratterizzata da un vivace ritmo con percussioni e strumenti a canne. "Première Patrouille" (b1) riflette uno stato di tensione così come "Patrouille et Lendemain" (b2). Dramma ed epica si ricongiungono nell'ultima traccia (b3) dove al suono cupo del violino e di altri strumenti subentra una marcia di carattere eroico e glorificatore. 

Notes : I would like to point out that not all the music present on the disc was composed by Marc Lanjean. In fact, two tracks (a2, a3) are signed Roger Roger, an excellent French composer of scores for films and documentaries, classical, electronic music and pop songs. In addition, a track is signed by both composers (b3). What I have now said may have been caused by the death of Lanjean in February 1964  and considering that the film preview took place in April 5, 1964, we can't exclude that Roger Roger were called to complete the music. Of course that's just my guess, moreover all the filmographies report among the composers of this soundtrack also Giovanni Fusco who is not present on this EP, at least reportedly in the credits of the disc. Maybe his compositions are not present in the disc for contractual reasons or his music was designed exclusively for the movie Italian version, or was never released for unknown reasons. Posterity will judge. Drama and adventure are combined in the movie plot, set in the Indochinese peninsula. All this is well reflected in the soundtrack. The first tune (a1) is a military march full of epic emphasis underlined by the intense movement of the orchestra. "Epopée" (a2) from the dramatic character is well expressed by sonorities, in particular from percussion, whose rhythm increases and decreases several times, the music resumes at the end the epic of the first track. "Thème Viet" (a3) gives a moment of quiet with traditional Southeast Asian music characterized by a lively rhythm with percussion and reed instruments. "Premiere Patrouille" (b1) reflects a state of tension as well as "Patrouille et Lendemain" (b2). Drama and epic are rejoined in the last track (b3), where the dark tones of the violin and other instruments is replaced later by a heroic and glorifying march.

Film d’avventura ma con accentuate caratteristiche drammatiche prodotto da Francia, Italia e Spagna. Regia di Henri Decoin, con Curd Jürgens, Maurice Ronet, Folco Lulli, German Cobós e Tiny Yong.
