Either this is yet another rare obscurity that no one seems to know a thing about, or there is just a DEARTH of information online about such things. Or maybe both. Here's another mid to late 60's single that I can't find a shred of information about - it's from the Marc V and the songs are "I'm A Dog" and "And I'm Glad", on the Sound City label out of Ames, Iowa. I don't even think this is the same Sound City label that gave us the soul single by the Sharpets, because the label art here is much plainer. What I CAN tell you about this single is that it's certainly a lo-fi basement garage affair - "I'm A Dog" (not the Kid Rock song) is a KILLER thrashing garage punker with insistent reedy organ and a real slashing, punky attack. Think Iggy Pop fronting ? and the Mysterians, with the classic literary hook "I'm a DOG...oh YEAH!" Cheeky kids too, they slap on a few false endings just to keep you on your toes. The flipside is much more mellow, but just as good - a gentle garage punk ballad recorded in some Iowa basement, set to a jazzy little shuffle and decked out with some really crude keyboards that sound like whatever the 60's equivalent of a Casio would be. The lo-fi version of the Strawberry Alarm Clock. Needless to say, both sides are uncomped, and as far as I can tell, pretty much unknown too. But it's a KILLER, and any garage punk fan needs this one in their collection. Original pressing on the Sound City label, SS-10759-01. Vinyl plays nice VG+.
