Guess you all missed this one first time round so I'm relisting it at a lower start. This one doesn't come up for auction very often...don't miss it this time!
If you are looking for a great copy of this - look no further! It's in very collectable condition – the vinyl is near mint - you won't be disappointed. This rare & collectable album is an original on the Melodisc label – banned by the BBC! The cover photo is by the famous glamour photographer Harrison Marks and liner notes are by jazz critic James Asman. Both record and sleeve are as good as it gets.
Marie Bryant was born in 1919 in Meridian, Mississippi. She made it up to Chicago to make her professional debut with Louis Armstrong at the age of 15. She performed with Lionel Hampton in Los Angeles a year later, and eventually she ended up in New York City where she danced at the famed Cotton Club. There she met Duke Ellington who once referred to her as “one of the world’s greatest dancers.” After touring with the band as a dancer for three years she landed a role in Ellington’s first full length stage musical entitled ‘Jump For Joy.’ She eventually moved on to Europe in the early in 1950’s where she appeared in a show called “High Spirits” in London. It is at this time when she recorded the bulk of her singing including this LP of risque songs. Sadly, she passed away in 1978.
