Fugazi A-2U / B-4U

This final upgrade archive pressing plays with near perfect audio.  This I purchased at the same time as 'Script For A Jester's Tear' (separate listing) and again has been kept in immaculate condition.  The previous owner advised that this one had only been played a couple of times.  The gatefold is in superb condition - a time warp museum piece for certain.

Visual grading

At first glace this vinyl is visually 'as new'.  It is only when you look very closely that you can detect 3/4 very faint hairlines and I mean faint!  Caused by sleeve removal no doubt.  This is visually superb and there are no marks or scratches of any kind and it retains a lovely glossy sheen.  The cream labels are super clean and have only one spindle trace on S1 and a couple on S2.  A fantastically well preserved album in anyone's opinion.

Play grading  

The intro on 'Assasing' plays with stunning quality from the very first groove.  The production values on this album are often questioned but there is no doubting the quality of this vinyl and the audio throughout is of a superb standard.  There is no interference and no distortion, a 'high end' version without doubt.  'Punch And Judy' definitely qualifies as Mint as there is no 'background' of any kind.  A extremely powerful version with no distortion again.  The quiet opening section on the classic 'Jigsaw' has a clarity that is second to none.  As near to perfect as could be all you can hear is the music, there is no interference whatsoever.  The track continues in the same sublime fashion with only a couple of seconds of static on the second quiet verse.  The guitar solo plays with a depth and power that is rarely heard and has none of the tinny distortion that you so often find.  The fade out again proves how well this vinyl has been maintained.  It's a rather long quiet fade out and yet all I heard was a touch of barely audible static.  Stunning!  'Emerald Lies' ends S1 with Mint- quality audio from the start to finish.  It would be Mint aside from a minimal hint of mega light static in a couple of places for a second or two.  I am sure many sellers would still grade this as Mint.  As always the end section does have some distortion, you cannot avoid it with this album.  It still plays with great power and there is no other 'background'.

The long quiet intro on 'She Chameleon' plays with wonderful clarity although there is one click near the beginning.  Apart from that it plays so clearly and belies its 34 years.  The remainder of this often underrated track is near perfect with only a little static literally at the end of the fade out.  A sublime version.  The amazing 'Incubus' plays with stunning quality from note one and is 'as new'.  Rarely have I heard this classic playing with such clarity and definition and even the super quiet piano section is stunning with next to no static and there are certainly no clicks or pops.  It really is a fantastic listen!  To the end it plays with great power and no 'background' at all.  I am confident in grading this as Mint and is easily the 'cleanest' I have heard for years.  It has the wow factor!  The quiet intro on 'Fugazi' is hugely impressive with only a couple of dust ticks, nothing intrusive whatsoever.  From then on it plays to near perfection and is yet another 'high end' listen.  There are a handful of dust ticks on the 'Son watches father...' section but this is the only 'background' and barely intrudes on the audio in my opinion.  The fabulous end section is superb and plays without fault.  So often it plagued by a fair amount of distortion but there is barely any here, further proof if it was needed that this vinyl has been hardly played.

In summary this is another final upgrade archive pressing I am selling. With only one click the clarity throughout is superb and the majority does play 'as new'.  The glossy cover is in superb condition and this classic second LP from Marillion would impress even the most die-hard of fans!  I'm one of them!!

The Gatefold

This is a fabulous example of this glossy gatefold and has been preserved so well and has obviously been hardly handled.  At first glance it looks 'as new'!  The top edges and wide spine are indeed immaculate and the bottom edges have only a the bare minimum of light rubbing towards the right hand corners.  The corners themselves are in great shape with no obvious rubbing or wear at all and the opening edge has no handling wear either.  The front cover is nigh on perfect with only 3/4 tiny creases around the edges and perhaps are not even worth a mention really!  The back cover is in superlative condition as is the inside.  All in all this is a fantastic example of this cover and will not disappoint.

The Inner

The original die-cut black poly-lined inner has no splits, tears or markings and only very minor creasing.  Near perfect.

The labels

The original cream coloured labels are in superb order with no markings or writing and barely any spindle wear.

Play tested on my Pro-Ject Essential III Turntable / B&W 684 Speakers

This record has been professionally cleaned on a Pro-Ject VC-S machine
