MARIO BENEDETTI (whose collaborations with Joan Manuel Serrat are important in South America, Cuba and Spain) and DANIEL VIGLIETTI recorded this in the Palacio Penarol (Montevideo URUGUAY) after President Sanguinetti replaced the military junta and granted political asylum to many self imposed exiles including artists like Benedetti who lived in Spain and Cuba while fostering a friendship with the Cuban government and Fidel Castro. These artists were banned and in some cases tortured for their artistic declarations extoling what they saw as the virtues of individuals such as Ernesto Che Guevara and Salvador Allende of Chile who was ousted by a military coup on September 1, 1974. Legendary singer songwriter Alfredo Zitarrosa also left and lived in Mexico City.

Daniel was a peer of Victor Jara and Violeta Parra of Chile. They, along with Pablo Neruda were ardent opponents of the government of Agusto Pinochet who ousted democratically elected Marxist president Salvador Allende.
Benedetti is considered one of the dearest Latin American poets and his work is also heralded in Spain. His library was donated to the University of Alicante a few years back. When he passed, away the official Cuban state newspaper Granma paid him a moving tribute.
He is also remembered for making a cameo in the movie EL LADO OSCURO DEL CORAZON (The Dark Side of the Heart) featuring Dario Grandinetti and Nacha Guevara from Argentina.
