popular music of that era to produce an album that should have really taken off then, but due to the strange
setup of Canterbury Records who were in business to lose money for a Mattel tax shelter, the album was allowed

FINALLY ONE LAST WORD RE HAIRLINES, IT IS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND ANY NON SEALED RECORD WITHOUT THEM, MANY HAD THEM FROM NEW. MOSTLY THEY ARE A RESULT OF STORAGE AND USE AND USUALLY HAVE LITTLE IMPACT ON THE SOUND QUALITY. THE SAME GOES FOR BACKGROUND NOISE, UNFORTUNATELY ALL RECORDS WILL HAVE SOME AND THIS VARIES AND REFLECTS THE PRESSING QUALITY. 

Most records have production marks where someone touched or moved the vinyl while it was still semi-soft.  These marks look like smudges, but are not scratches or "paper scuffs" and do not usually sound.  Untouched vinyl from newly-opened records have these marks.

How I Grade Condition Of Discs

Mint - MEANS SEALED IN ORIGINAL SHRINKWRAP OR BAGGIE 

Near Mint  - Looks mostly unplayed with little to no evidence of play

Excellent To Excellent Plus - A disc is super clean, with only very light visible marks rubbing due to removal from the sleeve or from the original pressing

Excellent minus is a disc that is excellent except it may have some markings that do not show up in the playing

VG Plus Plus  A disc that is in very good shape WILL have some light scuffs or hairlines, not in excellent shape but well worth owning.

VG + - a disc that is that better than VG with hairlines and some non felt scratches

VG  - Shows hairlines and light scratches but plays with no problems can play with light surface noise

Any lesser grades will be explained in the condition mainly imperfections including scratches deep enough to be felt with a fingernail.
