Description
Marko Rothmüller, born December 31, 1908, died January 20, 1993, was a Croatian operatic baritone. Studied at Zagreb Music Academy at the University of Zagreb, later in Vienna under Regina Weiss , Franz Steiner and Alban Berg. In 1932 Rothmüller made his debut in Hamburg, moved 1935 to Zürich, where until 1947 he was a pernament member of the Zürich opera. Beetween 1946 and 1949 member of the Vienna State Opera, from 1948 permament member of the Royal Opera House and from 1949 until 1955 he performed in the Glyndebourne Opera House. Debut in United States in 1948, 1949 until 1961 he performed at the Metropolitan Opera, New York, again in season 1964/5.
Suzanne Gyr ( - Vautrin ), born in Lorraine / France, June 8, 1899, died in Geneva / Switzerland, March 3, 1974; entered 1930 Cortot's class at the Ecole Normale in Paris and studied piano with him for five years. At the same time she took courses of history and harmony with Nadia Boulanger. Recitals in France, at Nancy, Epinal and Paris. Then war broke out and she settled to Geneva in Switzerland and married Edouard Gyr, violinist and a member of the Orchestre Romand. She gave many recitals and concerts in Switzerland and recorded abouth 35 records for HMV.
