Description
JECKLIN 201. First and only made in Switzerland STEREO pressing. Private release from Markus Stocker. Jecklin was only the distributer. Recorded live at the St. Peter Church in Zurich with "audiophile" equipment. Markus Stocker attended both the University and the Academy of music in Basel (Switzerland) where he obtained the soloist's diploma under August Wenzinger. He then studied privatly with Andre Navarra in Paris and participated in masterclasses by Pierre Fournier and Paul Tortelier. From 1971-72 he was the assistant of Fritz Magg and Janos Starker at Indiana University (Bloomington, USA). There, in 1972, he won the first prize in the cello competition and in the same year the Grand Prix at the International Cello Competition in memory of Maurice Marechal in Paris. In Switzerland he was awarded the soloist's prize of the Swiss Association of musicians 1973. Until 1976 he was the solo cellist of the Winterthur Symphony Orchestra after which he became Professor at the Conservatories of Zurich and Winterthur. He has performend as soloist in most European countries including Eastern Europe and Russia and concertizes regularly in the United States, Canada, Israel and the Far East. Well known orchestras and festivals (Salzburg, Lucerne, Gstaad, Kuhmo) have invited him as guest soloist. He plays on a cello made by Petrus Guarnerius in Venice in 1735. New old stock item. Very rare Swiss only cello rarity! Please note, items like this are the hardest to find. Great performence and sound!
