Up for auction is an ORIGINAL 1977 12" VINYL PRESSING of Television's MARQUEE MOON. Released by ELEKTRA Records. Cover photograph by the late, great, ROBERT MAPPLETHORPE. This copy is in excellent condition, no scratches, surface is smooth, clean, and unmarked. As you can see in the photos, the record cover still has most of its original, un-removed shrink wrap intact, including the price sticker from E.J.Korvettes, where it was purchased (discount price was $3.99 from $6.98 list! - the good old days!). Cover has wear on the opening edges, but pretty much pristine under the wrap.
Was a GREAT record from the original NYC punk scene - still a GREAT record! Guitars by Verlaine & Lloyd, Fred Smith Bass, Drums by billy Ficca. You know the deal...

The lyrics, which are in a demotic-philosophical mode ("I was listening/listening to the rain/I was hearing/hearing something else"), would carry this record alone; so would the guitar playing, as lyrical and piercing as Clapton or Garcia but totally unlike either. Yes, you bet it rocks. And no, I didn't believe they'd be able to do it on record because I thought this band's excitement was all in the live raveups. Turns out that's about a third of it. A+

New York's 1970s punk was markedly different to that of Britain. Rather than reject the past, American groups deconstructed its forms and rebuilt them with recourse to the music's strengths. Television's leader, Tom Verlaine, professed admiration for Moby Grape and the folk rock of early Fairport Convention. Elements of the latter appear on this album's title track, which offers a thrilling instrumental break, built upon a modal scale. Verlaine's shimmering guitar style provides the set's focus, but his angular compositions are always enthralling. A sense of brooding mystery envelops the proceedings, and Marquee Moon retains its standing as one of the era's pivotal releases."
