DESCRIPTION

Jean Martinon / The Israel Philharmonic Orchestra - “Giacomo Meyerbeer / Constant Lambert: "Les Patineurs” / Jules Émile Frédéric Massenet: “Le Cid" Decca Records (UK) SXL.2021 (Stereo) from 1958. Hard to find Original First U.K. Pressing Symphonic Classical Ballet album from Jean Martinon and The Israel Philharmonic Orchestra. This is an Original Wide Band Grooved E1 First Pressing with the following features:
LABELS: - Black/silver 'grooved wideband' labels - "ORIGINAL RECORDING BY" at 11 o'clock - "Made in England" at bottom - "RECORDING FIRST PUBLISHED 1958" - "B.I.E.M." in a box on side 2 only - "Hawkes" on side 1 - Matrix numbers printed upside-down
SLEEVE: - Laminated on front only - Thin spine with no text on it - Straight flipbacks on top and bottom - Blue border on back - Triangular "DECCA STEREOPHONIC" logo on front and back - Printing date on sleeve is October 1958 ("58.10") - "Printed in England" on bottom flipback

CONDITION

The Sleeve is in decent solid shape. There is some shelf wear, edge creasing and corner softening/wear. There are slight bits of laminate lifting and peeling in a few spots. There is a small (1/4”) tear in the back opening edge. Still solid with no splits, stains, writing, cutouts, etc. and would rate VG overall. The Vinyl is in clean Glossy condition looking lightly played. If you really look closely you can spot a few slight scuffs and faint hairlines including one across most of side one - no actual scratches i.e. something you can feel with a finger nail. Still pretty close to New condition. At least a good VG+ and plays mostly perfectly with the exception of 5-6 soft tics right at the start of side one and a couple spots of barely audible groove noise - might well be further improved with a better cleaning than I can give with my Discwasher brush. The Labels are Near Mint. The inner sleeves are also in great shape.

TERMS AND DEFINITIONS

Records are graded to the best of my ability to Goldmine Visual standards. If I provide Play Grades it is done as a courtesy but I only guarantee the Visual Grade. If you are not familiar with this grading system (or even if you think you are!), please check it out before bidding. I have summarized the important (i.e. I think everyone knows what Mint means) points below in Goldmine's words:
Very Good Plus (VG+): Record surfaces may show some slight signs of wear and may have slight scuffs or very light scratches that don't affect one's listening experience. Slight warps that do not affect the sound are OK.
Very Good (VG): Surface noise will be evident upon playing,... Groove wear will start to be noticeable, as will light scratches (deep enough to feel with a fingernail) that will affect the sound.
I stand by my grades but would like us to be on the same page so no problems arise. I have been selling Vintage Vinyl for over twenty years on the net and I can count the returns I've had on one hand so I believe my grading is fair and accurate. One important note, I try to grade to these Goldmine guides as best as I can understand and apply them. This gives us both a written standard to go by rather than having to guess. But.... it also means that I don't issue refunds over differences of opinion in grading i.e. "That's not MY idea of a VG record!" - I don't know what your standards are and, as such, can't grade to them. I guarantee that items I sell will meet my description, nothing more or less! If you are not satisfied that a purchase meets my description, I will do what I can to make it right if you give me the chance and work with me! Please feel free to check my feedback.
