VINYL is EX+
High gloss vinyl is very close to Near Mint with only a few faintest sleeve marks and one small, inaudible surface scuff, viewed under hard bright light. LP plays very clean throughout. Silver on dark brown labels are pristine both sides.

COVER is VG+ STRONG
Extremely clean, tight cover has lightest touch of ring rub and some very mild handling. Signed on front by the artist. Seams and spine completely intact one small spot of wear on bottom seam only. No splits. All edges straight, all corners sharp.

Very Hard to find, small press run, Modern Soul LP from Oakland. 
Contains the standout tracks "You Girl" and "Can I Get nasty".

Marvin Holmes is one of the founding fathers of Oakland Funk.

Marvin Holmes and the Uptights emerged as the Oakland Bay Area’s hottest soul band in the early 60’s and 70’s. Marvin’s knack for strong songwriting and stellar guitar work gave them two hits in the 60’s “The Funky Mule” and "Ooh Ooh The Dragon". “Funky Mule” instantly became a national hit.

Marvin Holmes and the Uptights played behind many major soul, R&B and Blues acts that came to the Oakland / San Francisco Bay area: B.B. King, The Whispers, David Ruffin, Etta James, Esther Phillips, Martha and the Vandellas, Hugh Masakela, The Temptations, etc. and even Jimi Hendrix, back in 1969.

After The Uptights broke up, Marvin continued in the 70's and 80's with the bands The Funk Company, Marvin Holmes and Justice and Rush.

His 3 LPs on his own BDR (Brown Door Records) label are all now extremely scarce
and highly sought by collectors of rare soul and funk.
