Matching Mole : Matching Mole A2 / B1 1 st Press 1972
This eclectic first pressing plays with stunning quality for the vast majority. The only interference is a couple of clicks at the beginning of S2 because of a tiny scratch but by then the music has hardly started anyway! Aside from that the clarity and depth of the audio is incredible and it is clear this vinyl has only been lightly played. It's very much in the Canterbury style and a lot of it is of course instrumental. An interesting album shall we say.
The Patents pending textured cover is in superb condition with just light marking in the lower right corner but there cannot be many around as clean as this. The CBS inner sleeve is in excellent condition also.

Visual description
The vinyl is in lovely condition and still has a superb glossy sheen. The only issue is one tiny scratch at the beginning of S2 but aside from that it is exceptionally clean with only a small number of very faint hairlines which are very difficult to find anyway. There is no groove or surface wear and the orange CBS labels are near perfect with only minimal spindle wear.
Play Grading
The entire intro on 'O Caroline' plays with stunning clarity, there is no background, and Wyatt's opening vocal section is just as strong and clear. It continues in the same way with no ticks, clicks, pops or static - it's a relatively sparse track and yet the clarity of sound is incredible. The final 'chorus' vocal is flawless and the quiet ending is perfect. It has to grade as Mint- at the very least.
The intro on 'Instant Pussy' has a handful of minor statics and one light tick at the start. As Wyatt's drums come in the audio is so clean and 'fresh' and thereafter plays with stunning precision. I will grade the intro as Near Mint and the remainder as Mint
The segue into 'Signed Curtain' is faultless and the intro has no background. The first vocal is nigh on perfect with only a couple of barely audible statics and it continues in the same precise way. Interesting ahem lyrics but it's a good melody and clarity wise it is superb. Mint-
'Part Of the Dance' has a couple of light statics on the intro and the next section has no interference. A jazzy improv Canterbury type instrumental from Sinclair and it plays with superb audio all the way through. There is no background - exceptional percussion from Wyatt of course and Miller's guitar work is superb also. Mint- is again deserved.

There is a very small scratch at the beginning of S2 which does result in a few loud clicks before the music comes in and about three lighter ones just as the intro on 'Instant Kitten' begins. At this stage the music is very quiet and the rest of the intro then plays with genuine quality. As Miller comes in the audio is stunning and from then onwards the clarity and depth is sensational. The quiet end section plays beautifully. I'll say the intro is Ex because the vast majority is so clean and the rest is Mint in my opinion.
The quiet opening section on 'Dedicated To Hugh...' plays with exceptional clarity and this high end level is prevalent throughout. It's another improv number and it really could not play any better. Mint-
'Beer As In Braindeer' begins perfectly and... it continues to play with sublime clarity and definition. If it wasn't obvious already then it is clear this record has hardly ever seen a turntable before. You could say the music is an acquired taste but there is no denying the sonic quality on offer here. The quiet section at the end plays with STUNNING clarity, every second of it, and this is another instrumental worthy of a Mint- grade.
The segue into 'Immediate Curtain' is 'as new' and it proceeds in pretty much the same way. I noticed a small number of minor statics but they are so quiet and totally non-intrusive. A couple of light tick also but's it. Overall the clarity of sound on this final instrumental is superb. There are a small number of very light static 'moments' towards the end so overall I will grade it as Near Mint-
The Textured Cover & Inner Sleeve
The Patents pending cover is in superb condition overall with only minimal wear. The edges are perfect and the spine is close to that with no marking and only a little compression, it remains 100% legible. The corners are incredibly clean and the opening edge has no handling wear. The textured front cover is of course so white and is near perfect except for a little ringwear and a couple of faint marks in the bottom right corner. The textured back cover is even better with only a couple of very faint 'spots' and a minor crease by the opening edge. This is a very impressive example.
The CBS inner is in excellent condition with no shape with no side splits or tears and only slightly faded with age. It has only minimal creasing.

Postage & Packaging
I will only send items items worldwide via tracked shipping. This provides 'peace of mind' in case of loss or damage. The shipping costs are shown below and combined shipping is always offered. Any over-payment will always be refunded.
The Royal Mail only insure up to a value of £250 so if an item sells for more it may be wise to use a courier service (e.g. Parcelforce or DPD). An extra insurance premium will be required but I will not know the exact amount until the final sale price is known. Because of this I will sometimes have to estimate the cost and this will be shown in the listing. All vinyls are packaged in strong over-sized custom made mailers with plenty of extra cardboard protection. They are placed inside separate poly-lined inners outside the cover so as to avoid seam splits in transit and then placed inside a PVC sleeve to provide even more protection. I pride myself on my high quality packaging as my feed confirms and if any customer has any specific requirements I am more than happy to help.
The mailers I use cost £1.00 each and I will use anything between 3-5 cardboard stiffeners which cost approx £0.18 each. There is also the cost of the poly-lined inner and PVC sleeve to consider, it all adds up! Not forgetting that eBay take 10% of the shipping fee also!!
