The second of two albums by this quite short-lived prog-rock fronted by the former Soft Machine drummer and vocalist Robert Wyatt. This quite similar to his more well-known former band and very much in the ‘Canterbury Rock’ mode. Not overly commercial and neither were major sellers, hence quite difficult to find.  In very impressive condition, and sound superb. This one produced by King Crimson’s Robert Fripp and this one involves more of the band members than the first. For those who enjoy the more challenging prog-rock bands like Egg, Hatfield and the North and Soft Machine, Matching Mole are also made for you.

Matching Mole was an English progressive rock band associated with the Canterbury scene. Robert Wyatt formed the band in October 1971 after he left Soft Machine and recorded his first solo album The End of an Ear (December 4, 1970). He continued his role on vocals and drums and was joined by David Sinclair, of Caravan, on organ and piano, Phil Miller on guitar and Bill MacCormick, formerly of Quiet Sun, on bass. The name is a pun on Machine Molle, the French translation of the name of Wyatt's previous group Soft Machine.

This is the far harder to find second press. Unusually for any record at all the second press totally flopped and was pressed in lower numbers than the first one. This pressing is also a lot clearer in sound and will be a delight for all serious Canterbury collectors.

Condition Record/Sleeve: NM/EX++ 

I have played this in FULL> The replay is ASTOUNDING!!! There are not any jumps, pops or skips.  Very remarkable for this 1972 vinyl!!! This copy has barely been played and is probably unplayed. The only absolutely PRISTINE copy I have ever come across of this ultra rare, hard to get album, even as a second press and is actually even rarer as a second press!! I played this on my Technics turntable with a Linn cartridge and through my very revealing B&W three way speakers!!! A beautiful CLASSIC with supreme songcraft, a joy to listen to!!!!

!!!!A VERY HARD FIND!!! Most have been bought up by collectors!! This is hardly offered these days as an original second press, the first press being more common!!

 Sensational sound quality, I have played this through in its entirety and it was a great joy!!! NO skips or jumps. NO clicks or crackle, this is really a stunning heavy glossy jet black vinyl .The audio is impeccable. Inspected under an intense lightsource and angled.

Vinyl: NM .  A sensational find and barely played!!! I have played this in FULL twice over> The replay is ASTOUNDING!!! I first played for a general listen and a second time for a more detailed observation. NO hairlines, NO scuffs, simply pristine!! THE LABELS HAVE NOT EVEN ANY SPINDLE TRACES. Fantastic songcraft!! A personal favourite of mine and I am very glad to be able to report that this is a fine slab of vinyl without any problems at all and as such worthy of inclusion of any great prog collection. This will be an ultimate upgrade version for most collectors.  Outstanding audio delivery in all respects with a crystal clear, deep, rich, warm and detailed sound and on playback at a loud volume (which is how I always listen to my LPs prior to listing and it's always an immense pleasure to return to this one) there is barely any surface noise. This is a beautifully clean pressing (and I must emphasise again how difficult it is to find a copy which plays this well). The whole LP sounds absolutely great and plays to a high standard with superb clarity, no groove-wear and no distortion and is very strictly graded a strong NM  for audio without anything untoward, no static or crackle at all - great copy!! Of course, NO skips, NO jumps, NO ticks.

 Sleeve: EX++ to NM.  Unbelievable to find such a well preserved sleeve. I doubt whether it is possible to improve on this at all!! A beautiful sleeve with perfect edges and spine. The spine  is 100% legible and has the RED lettering. Not only that but the letters are still bold and have NOT FADED!!  the opening is still super crisp. This has been stored in a polythene sleeve for decades. There are no creases and there is no writing. Unbelievably this is now 44 years old!! This is in time warp museum condition.

Labels: NM!!! Unmarked. these are the very desirable large mad hatter labels.  None scarcer though than this label!! I doubt we will see this again this year or the next! There are no spindle traces at all!! The colours are beautiful and rich like just over the counter. Please look at the pics!!
