RARE original UK first pressing of Matching Mole`s eponymous debut album, released on CBS Records (April 1972).
"Matching Mole" was the name Robert Wyatt chose for his first group effort after leaving Soft Machine. In many respects, Matching Mole equalled ("machine molle" even translates as "soft machine" in French!) if not surpassed his previous band in overall excellence: The musical chops were (even) more accomplished, the humour (even) more tongue-in-cheek, such as songtitles pairing "Instant Kitten" with "Instant Pussy", etc.
Above all however, the album contained the Sinclair/Wyatt composition "O Caroline", which, along with "Memories" and "At Last I Am Free" surely must rank among the most heart-rending songs Robert Wyatt ever recorded.
GRADING:
VG++ COVER with very light general grubbiness to an off-white sleeve that is very sensitive to aging.
Very light beginnings of ring wear and a lightly bent corner (at bottom right). Small beige stain on rear sleeve (at bottom center). Please see photos for details.
MINT- RECORD with a few of the lightest hairlines, from sleeve removal only. The first-press dark orange CBS labels are unmarked, with no spindle wear whatsoever.
The matrix stamps in the dead wax read "A2" and "B3" respectively, making this an early UK pressing: This is as close to mint a UK first pressing as you`re liable to see in a while!
PLEASE NOTE: Over the next few months, we will regularly be offering a number of rarities, mainly progressive and avantgarde records: A very discerning, long-time collector friend left us his treasure chest! Not only are many of these lps extremely rare, they are almost all in MINT(-) condition - both inside and out.
As we slowly inch our way closer to springtime, we will be spreading the goodies out, in no special order. Suffice to say that the best is still to come!
