Description

For auction is MAX ROACH's "Percussion Bitter Sweet," on Impulse! A-8, MONO, 1961. Promo Version. With Eric Dolphy, Clifford Brown, Julian Priester, Booker Little, Abby Lincoln, others.

SOUND: VG+/NM

It has been machine-cleaned and I listened to both sides completely. Overall, the playback is outstanding, with solid, clean, crisp sound. That said, there is a touch of surface noise audible during the drum solo in B2, "Mendacity." Relatively minor. Also, a few random ticks are audible in a couple spots. Also minor. I'm just being as complete as possible. In all, this is an enormously enjoyable listen!

VINYL: VG/VG+

The vinyl shows a few routine, light scuffs or other marks, all appearing superficial. The only flaw of note is a tiny, feel-able mark in A1, "Garvey's Ghost," which accounts for most of the ticks I described above. This is the reason I conservatively graded the vinyl VG/VG+. The labels are white/black Impulse! "promo" issue. Very clean, with few light spindle marks. The "Bell Sound" stamp appears in the dead wax both sides.

JACKET: NM

The "promo" jacket consists of the inner gatefold of the commercial release. The jacket is outstanding, solid all-around in great condition. Front and back covers are very clean and beautiful condition. The only flaw is the signature of a record-company rep in black marker (see pic.)

The record has one tiny flaw, but plays very nicely. Fantastic jacket. You don't see this record available often. No reserve, bidding starts at $35.

Every record I auction has been cleaned on a Nitty Gritty vacuum/cleaner. I played every record to determine if there are static, tics, pops, hisses, what have you. I endeavor to thoroughly report any extraneous audio "noise" or problems of any significance. Other than that, I will report on the general condition of each record, both vinyl and jacket, according to Goldmine standards, to the best of my ability.

Every record is put into a new, clean sleeve insert. In the case of an interesting original sleeve insert, I'll include that in the sale.
