Reggae Musik war bekannt dafür, durch Texte Kontroversen jeglicher Art auszulösen. Das erste Beispiel dafür war Max Romeos Wet Dream', mit dem er 1969 in die UK Top 10 aufstieg. Der Jamaikaner Romeo, dessen richtiger Name Maxwell Livingston Smith lautet, hat aber auf jeden Fall mehr zu bieten, als nur diesen Song. Das Potential Romeos erschliesst sich aus den auf dieser Doppel-LP enthaltenen Songs. Reggae has never been afraid of causing lyrical controversy, as the likes of Yellowman, Buju Banton and Shabba Ranks have proved in recent years. But the first record to spark the debate was Max Romeo's 'Wet Dream', which made the UK Top 10 in 1969. He may have claimed the title referred to rain leaking through his bedroom ceiling, but the second verse suggested something rather different. But Jamaican Max Romeo, real name Maxwell Livingston Smith, has much more to him than his most (in)famous track, as this collection proudly shows. He's more than up to the task of interpreting material by Curtis Mayfield, Bob Dylan and the Jamaican poet laureate himself, Bob Marley. No one-hit wonder, he has proved his right to be considered one of Jamaica's longest-standing and most respected hitmakers.
