"MAXWELL STREET JIMMY DAVIS" mono lp on Elektra EKL-303 orig. US issue 1965 VG+/VG. (New dealer: Please check my About Me page.)
I would grade this LP VG+. It plays great, but has some minimal noise that was not there when the record was new. It may also have noticeable visual marks, consistent with a well-cared for, but appreciated, record that’s had a moderate amount of play. This LP still plays great, and has lots of shine and is beautiful overall. THIS IS A VINTAGE COPY. If you are a vinyl blues collector you are familiar with this lp and how hard it is to find. I bought it new and it's been with me 40 plus yrs. It's a very clean copy and is indeed a collectible mono lp. Maxwell Street Jimmy,as his name implies, was a Chicago street musician. He was very good, kind of a John Lee Hooker/Lightnin' Hopkins kind of acoustic sound. It's his only lp. I think he had a cut or two on some anthology but i'm not sure of that. The Tunes: WHAT MORE CAN A GOOD MAN DO?; TWO TRAINS RUNNING; LONG-HAIRED DARLIN; MY BABY CHANGED THE LOCK ON MY DOOR; DRIFTONG FROM DOOR TO DOOR; I GOT MY EYES ON YOU; ME AND MY TELEPHONE; DUST MY BROOM; SHE'S MY BABE; BABY PLEASE DON'T GO; DRIFTING BLUES. The Jacket: (I don’t rate any jackets with my initials NM) In black magic marker, my initials back upper left, an x back lower left. A very functional jacket. I would rate the cover VG overall with ring, seam and corner wear. A 2" bottom seam tear and a cut-out hole. But still in great shape.
