Description
This is an overall fine 1969 U.S. pressing copy of the censored version of the debut LP by the MC5. The group was formed in Detroit a few years before, and built up a rabid local following with their fiery live shows and radical politics (they were at this time associated with the so-called White Panther Party, which was led by firebrand John Sinclair). Their debut was recorded live at Detroit's Grande Ballroom in late October 1968, and its sheer intensity captures both the uncompromising idealism (the title track, "Motor City Is Burning," the introductory "testimonial" by Sinclair) and sloppy excesses ("I Want You Right Now," "Starship") of countercultural radicalism. The gatefold jacket has several mostly minor flaws: two small (cutout?) holes in the front cover (see photo), rippling in the cover slick inside the gatefold (see photo), a 1” split in the bottom seam that has been taped, light ring wear and scuffing, corner and bottom seam wear, and light spine, top seam, and edge wear -- overall VG+. The disc, by contrast, is clean with some light scuffing, and plays with occasional light surface noise (EX+).
I’m in the process of selling off a large personal collection amassed over two decades. All discs have been stored in plastic lined inner sleeves separate from their jackets. The jackets have been stored in plastic sleeves. I have play graded (spot checked) discs except where otherwise noted.
