Another from my personal collection of over 50,000 UK albums that I have acumilated over a period of more than 45 years or more! I have owned this album from new, originally only ever played to record to tape and then stored in a case with the vinyl removed from the cover for protection, this is how I have always stored my records. Unbeleivably 45 years old and in this awesome condition! It is quite amaizing to think that if the Beatles had stayed together for longer that some of the tracks on this album would probably have been featured on the next Beatles album! Please don't under estemate the rarety of this album. In my experience of collecting vinyls for more than 45 years the earliest pressings make all the difference for exceptional audio quality and not only that these are extreemely collectable being the earliest matrix endings available on this pressing -2u and -2u! What makes this early original so collectable is that the vinyl looks and plays almost as a new vinyl would. Also it is so difficult to ever find these gate fold covers in really good condition, being primarily black this cover is also absolutely stunning with minor storage wear, graded at least excellent plus in my opinion!
Vinyl Near Mint Audio Near Mint!

McCartney is the first solo album by Paul McCartney and was released in 1970. It is notable for the fact that McCartney, a multi-instrumentalist, performed the entire album (all instruments and voices) by himself, except for some backing vocals from his first wife, Linda McCartney. McCartney stated that he played "bass, drums, acoustic guitar, lead guitar, piano, Mellotron, organ, toy xylophone, and bow and arrow" on the album!
Recorded privately at his home in London; at Morgan Studios, London; and at Abbey Road Studios, London under the pseudonym "Billy Martin" from late 1969 to March of 1970; the development of McCartney was undertaken as the Beatles were falling apart!
McCartney had been the most keen to keep the band together since they began fracturing in 1968, but with John Lennons greater interest in performing and being with Yoko Ono, as well as George Harrison's emergence as a fine songwriter, their union was merely a facade for the public after finishing the recording of Abbey Road!
Accepting that the situation was irretrievable, McCartney decamped with wife Linda McCartney and their new family, including Linda's daughter from her first marriage, Heather, and their newborn, Mary, to their home in London in the autumn of 1969 so he could plot his next move!
As ever, McCartney had brought his instruments with him, as well as a portable Studer four-track tape recorder, and recorded the ad-libbed "The Lovely Linda" to test the equipment before the year was out. Enjoying the experience, he continued on, composing and improvising new material as he went along and overdubbing himself in the process. By late March 1970, as Phil Spector was concurrently mixing the Let It Be album, the simply-titled McCartney was completed.
Scheduled for release on 17 April 1970 the other Beatles realised that McCartney could conflict with the impending Let It Be album and film. The amiable Ringo Starr, whose own first album was almost ready for release, was sent to request that McCartney delay his solo debut. McCartney later commented, "They eventually sent Ringo round to my house at Cavendish with a message: I did something I'd never done before oomething like that in order to assert myself because I was just sinking. I was getting pummelled about the head, in my mind anyway!"
album was thus released on 17 April as planned, but not before a major announcement! On 10 April, McCartney finally broke the facade and publicly announced his departure from the Beatles, signalling the end of the group.
As for McCartney, the album quickly shot to #1 in the US for three weeks, eventually going double platinum. In the UK it was only denied the top spot by the highest-selling album of 1970 (and one of the all-time top-selling albums) Simon and Garfunkel's Bridge Over Troubled Water, which stayed at #1 for 41 (non-consecutive) weeks. There McCartney debuted straight at #2, where it remained for 3 weeks!
Although McCartney contains several pieces that are considered to be less than profound, it also includes "Every Night" and, more importantly, "Maybe I'm Amazed", one of McCartney's many love songs for his first wife, and one of his most enduring songs. McCartney has subsequently revealed that Linda was instrumental in bolstering his spirits and confidence during the album's making, and helping him out of his depression over losing the Beatles. Shortly after the album's release, George Harrison described "Maybe I'm Amazed" and "That Would Be Something" as "great", and regarded the other tracks as "fair"!
With a raw honesty that had never typified a McCartney-related recording before, McCartney indeed has an unpolished sound; but its minimalist, intimate feel was – and remains – a refreshing change from much of McCartney's more ambitious recorded works. Although some of its initial critics considered it slight (especially compared with the scope of the recent Abbey Road), the album's reputation has increased with time, and McCartney is a firm favourite with many McCartney devotees, and certainly one of my favourites!
The matrix
''YEX 775-2U'' ''YEX 775-2U'' (Impossibly rare to find 2u matrix endings the earliest possible for this pressing)
The mother Stampers
side 1. ''2'' ''RO'' side 2. ''4'' ''AD''
The vinyl
This is the original thicker heavier and deeper grooved vinyl and more robust than later pressings. On initial visual inspection this vinyl looks superbe AS NEW! retaining its original very glossy sheen from new . Only in very very strong light can possibly any surface marks be seen but to be honest I struggle to see any at all! Please note! There are (no) audio sounding marks that I heard during playback what so ever on my systems this plays as new in my opinion!,, A real deep basey feel that can not be surpassed by later pressings or in fact any other format! Please note! any static thast might be heard would probably be caused by the fact that this album has been stored laying dormant for all of its storage life!!,, a build up of dirt and dust over the years causes static and a constant clean before each play will reduce this and enhance the audio quality!
The Audio Quality
I have played the vinyl at very loud volume on a top system prior to this listing. The vinyl plays like a new vinyl, absolutely crystal clear and vibrant through out perfect on my systems!
This vinyl sounded awesome and is probably one of the best that i have heard of this pressing. There were (no) signs of any grooveware or that this vinyl has been overplayed in any way at all and visably this vinyl's playing surface looks near perfect in my opinion, I can barely see a blemish at all!. I have played this through track for track and it is my opinion that this audio will be hard to surpass for an original 37 year old vinyl!
POINTS TO NOTE! EXTREEMELY SHARP AND VIBRANT AUDIO WITH RICH AND BASSEY FEEL (ONLY HEARD LIKE THIS ON THESE EARLY PRESSINGS)
please note! I always add this disclaimer! That although I never heard any problems at all during the playback of this vinyl and i have given my honest opinion when describing the audio quality,, Please allow for the odd static tick\crackle here and there (not) consistant through out the audio. Remember that this is an original(not a reissue) that is 38 years old and would have originally been played on a 38 year old system, although visably in my opinion this looks like it has never been played UNBELEIVABLE TO FIND! Please look at my completed listings of records that i have sold of this calaber and you will see from my 100% positive feed back that i normally get it right! The audio is awesome on all frequencies and will be hard to surpass!
The labels
These feature the 1st issue 1st UK pressed (DARK GREEN) apple labels (only earliest press) in absolutely superbe condition (see photo) Amazingly less than a hand full of spider traces can barely be seen in strong light! unbeleivable to find! this looks barely played no more than three or four times only in my opinion, certainly not overplayed at all!.
The Record Sleeve
This is the EMI plain white paper sleeve! Features patent no. with (no) splits or tares just light creases with age!
The cover
This is the original 1st issue fully laminated gatefold cover features 'Apple Records' An EMI Recording, Printed and Made In England'' at the rear (Later press do not feature this),,in really superb condition! Being primarily black in colour these are extremely hard to find like this! Any storage wear is very very minimal Please note, in the form of a small crease on the front bottom right to mention but does not go through to the inside or back of the cover. very minor crease lines at the spine barely noticeable unless looked for in my opinion. Any rubbing of the laminate is minimal and no real ring wear with is very rare to find on this album like this. Inside the gate fold, this is lovely with (no) horrible names or writing, superb! The spine shows (no) signs of flattening or indeed any ware at all and is near perfect with clear writing ''McCartney'' on the spine! A superb example! I would grade this at least excellent to excellent plus in my opinion.
