Original Robbie Basho Seal of the Blue Lotus, Tacoma C-1005, with Booklet
CONDITION: Exceptional copy, conservatively graded and based on listening to the record in its entirety- my wife thought it was me practicing in the basement since I play in similar tunings- the afternoon of August 12, 2016 (Side One) and the afternoon of August 13, 2016 (Side Two) while preparing this listing, using my Hitachi HT45 turntable with an Audio Technica DC30 cartridge tracking at about 1.5 grams. The record has light surface noise throughout that is most noticeable, of course, in the empty grooves between the tracks and in the several quieter sections of pieces on this recording where instrumentation is, of course, minimal. The vinyl has some surface scratches and scuffs, but luckily nothing serious enough to compromise its overall very good audio performance. THERE IS A SINGLE, NON-REPEATING SKIP AT 3:15 into the first track, "Bardo Blues," on Side Two. It may be fixable- I didn't want to get into that, though I was tempted to clean the record. I leave that to the winning bidder. The labels are exceptionally clean, grey lettering on black background, and in lieu of the LP title simply say, just like the John Fahey records of this early Tacoma period, "ROBBIE BASHO, Guitar." There is nothing in the way of spindle marks. The record jacket is in good condition. There is minimal ring wear, front and back. The front of the jacket has a few stains, most pronounced to the left (blue) and right (brown), above the "R" in Robbie; to the right of the design below Guitar Soli in the upper right hand corner there is a single small brown stain. The back cover is in considerably better condition- no issues. Let's go around the horn on the jacket edges, beginning with the spine. Spine is intact and with all text legible, though there is a little wear in the "A" in Tacoma and the "B" in Basho. A ding in the lower left hand corner wraps around to the cover's bottom edge, and with its abrading to the cardboard sleeve creates an enclosed seam split about an inch and a half long from right to left beginning with the spine. There are a couple of areas of edge wear along the jackets lower edge, and a then a seam split less than an inch at the jacket opening. Lastly, the top edge has a ding with paper loss in the jacket's upper left hand corner and a similar ding in the upper right hand corner, each with a a little loss of the black matte paper. The booklet has some handling creases as well as harder creases that presumably developed when it was not properly returned to the jacket over it long, again 50-year, life. No big whoop. All of the above is shared as MY responsibility in our deal, and in the interest of full disclosure. In truth, this is quite a nice copy, especially for a classic and rare folk/blues record now in its 51st year of its existence.
Don't forget to avail yourself of ebay's "Mouse over image to zoom" feature when you review the pictures for this listing, a great asset in seeing for yourself the minor defects described above.
