ORIGINAL UK BUDDAH (203 028) FIRST PRESSING (October 1969) OF MELANIE'S SECOND RELEASE "Affectionately Melanie" IN BEAUTIFUL, BARELY PLAYED CONDITION (probably been played just once or twice at most) DELIVERING PRACTICALLY MINT AUDIO ON MY SYSTEM WITH A CRYSTAL CLEAR, CLEAN, SHARP AND FRESH SOUND (just about as good as it gets)
THIS COPY ALSO CONTAINS THE RARE GATEFOLD LYRIC INSERT PRINTED ON TEXTURED PAPER (THIS IS THE ONLY TIME I HAVE COME ACROSS A FIRST PRESSING WHICH STILL HAS ONE - AND IT'S MINT)

Melanie's second album was a strong pop-flavoured singer/songwriter effort, with more serious-minded material and execution than those familiar with only her best-known songs would expect.
Although folk-rock is an element here, it's actually just one, combined as well with well-done pop orchestration, a certain sensibility akin to that heard in theatrical musicals, and even a little bit of white soul (particularly on the one non-original, "Soul Sister Annie").
She would have been well advised to concentrate more on her lower, more sensual register throughout her career, as she does on the generally fine and moving vocals on this LP.
The New York theatre factor comes into play on the darkly semi-comic "Any Guy" and "Take Me Home," and her more utopian sentiments arise in "Beautiful People." But really, this is far more gutsy than sappy, her earnest delivery containing some real grit.
Even if her songs occasionally dovetail with childish sentiment, there's just as much earthy realism, as well as some vulnerable loneliness so don't overlook this one just because of her semi-justified reputation as a singer/songwriting lightweight; you might find yourself surprised at how worthy and affecting this early outing is

LABELS: The black/silver matt Buddah labels are clean and bright with no unwanted marks/writing and just one/two of the lightest spindle traces - this copy has barely been played and the spindle hole is still very tight
VINYL Visual: The vinyl retains its original deep, like-new, glossy sheen and is unmarked - a beautiful, practically as-new record
VINYL Audio: Outstanding audio quality throughout with an impressively clean and fresh sound and on playback at a loud volume (which is how I always listen to my LPs prior to listing) there are no scratches, no sticks or jumps and no surface noise (not even on the brief acapella intro 'I'm Back In Town' which plays with CD like silence). The record plays in its entirety to the highest standard with all frequencies bright and clear, no groove-wear and no distortion and is critically graded a strong NEAR MINT for audio - great copy and I really don't think you will find one better
SLEEVE: The fully laminated sleeve is also superb condition. The surfaces retain their deep, deep glossy sheen and are clean and fresh with only the lightest of rubbing and only one half-moon crease towards to opening edge, and the spine (which has the first issue characteristic of being 'pinched' at the top and bottom) is sharp and displays all text clear and bold - EXCELLENT+
LYRIC INSERT: The gatefold lyric sheet (printed on one side of delicate textured paper) is in untouched, unmarked and unworn MINT condition
