MELANIE--CANDLES IN THE RAIN
Buddah Records BDS 5060--GATEFOLD JACKET
Melanie started out in 1967 as a Folk singer on the Greenwich Village NY club scene. Her big break came at the Woodstock Festival in 1969 when she appeared and the crowd loved her! Her performance of her own composition 'Lay Down Candles In The Rain' had the entire crowd holding lit matches, lighters, candles, etc. Recording this LP right after Woodstock and released in 1970, the Gatefold Jacket LP contained 'Lay Down' with the Edwin Hawkins Singers and was a tremendous hit record. Some other tracks off the album hit big too, 'What Have They Done To My Song, Ma' and a cover of The Rolling Stones 'Ruby Tuesday'. A great album from the peace & love era, it's a classic!
