Description
PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: Please read the entire auction listing, including shipping costs, before writing to ask a question. OUR GOAL IS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. In order to meet that goal, we will ALWAYS work with our customers on any concerns that may arise. Because of that dedication, there should be no need to open a resolution dispute before working with us. Please keep in mind, we would prefer to continue to provide you the opportunity to acquire the rare music we present each and every week. Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office. Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has become very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our well over 22,000+ positive feedback.
We use an ultrasonic KLAudio machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery. We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. Please give us 5 stars in each category through the feedback system, and we will be able to effectively continue to fulfill your passion for rare and collectible music! We have served thousands of satisfied customers - far more than our feedback records indicate - and our aim is to continue to do so. Thank you for your interest and support. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ SHIPPING: USA ~ 1 LP = $4.00 Media Priority rates vary by area; please inquire. - Sometimes it feels good to be a little bad.
- sensually smoky and delightfully depraved
- A masterful recording by the legendary Serge GAINSBOURG first released in 1971 - this is the 1975 masters press second print in lavish gatefold cover ...an album unlike anyone before or since.
- Gainsbourg was considered the French embodiment of ELVIS in the sixties with his deep & rich baritone voice. Not unlike DAVID BOWIE, Gainsbourg reinvented himself in the late 60's rock scene, gathering renown bassist Herbie Flowers & guitarist Alan Parker ...directing his masterpiece theater conceptual "History Of Melody Nelson" was/is loosely based on the love affair with singer and actress Jane Birkin, years beyond Gainsbourg's senior.
-
The "History Of Melody Nelson" is drenched in a sense of unbridled lust from the very moment the record begins ...with Herbie Flowers’ seedy, rambling and entrancing bass lines... Flowers notably played bass on Lou Reed’s legendary "Transformer" LP: remember “Walk On The Wild Side”, as well as on David Bowie’s “Space Oddity” and "Diamond Dogs" Lp.
A genius in his own right, Flowers perfectly enhances the sleazy-but-suave sounds of Gainsbourg’s introspective growl.
The epic "Melody Nelson" album is mysterious, sinister, debaucherous and at times, even heartfelt effortlessly communicated in the music itself, and led by Gainsbourg's captivating vocals.
- We’re talking about a man who once tricked female singer "France Gall" into sweetly singing about blowjobs on “Les Sucettes.” Unaware of the double meaning, she innocently thought the song was about lollipops.
"History Of Melody" remains a record worthy exploring largely because of namely the dark and rarely visited corners of the mind, and one cannot help but derive a hint of grim, even animalistic pleasure and satisfaction from the intimate and seedy meanderings of Gainsbourg’s voice or Flowers’ bass.
As noted above, depicted on the album’s cover and featured on the record itself, "Melody" is played & performed by the stunning and significantly younger Jane Birkin - best known for her relationship with Gainsbourg.
With "Melody" soon seduced by the suave cigarette-smoking monsieur, their unholy relationship is subsequently consummated in the kind of decadent yet decaying hotel one might expect.
Serge Gainsbourg was the ultimate provocateur, a masterful artist, creating this true original unlike anyone before or since.
So close the blinds, light a candle or two, down a bourbon, pour another and check out the twisted brilliance of "History Of Melody Nelson."
Overall, the listener may or maybe not be disturbed, yet in all probability will not be disappointed.
