Description

Conqueror 78 rpm record from the 1930s.  Vocal on both sides by Lizzie Douglas, aka Memphis Minnie.  I played the disc many times, partly for enjoyment and partly to figure out what grade to give it.  It is a difficult task.  As hopefully you can see, (photos are notoriously inaccurate for grading) there is considerable gloss on both sides.  But there is considerable wear also. Not scratches...grove wear.  Possibly from steel needles, there is an even and constant  background noise.  Not obtrusive but always there.  The fidelity is average or a bit below for a 78.  The sound quality of the vocal is good; better than the sound of the instruments.  Studio issue possibly. The record has scuffs but no scratches.  It has a few pops but not of the  repeat variety.  If forced to give it a grade I will make the call at almost VG+.  The Girlish Day side is a bit better than Chauffer Blues side. One more thing.  It seems to get best sound on my record player with a 78 needle. Less noise and more volume than with LP turntable/needle.  Thanks
