Description

I bought this record new from Discurio's import record shop in Melbourne in the mid 1960's. They were one of the few record stores that stocked Folkways records in any quantity. Memphis Slim was a well respected exponent of the piano blues and boogie woogie styles, and this record has him performing solo on 13 tracks, some vocal and some instrumental only. The vinyl on both sides is clean and shiny and both labels are clean, however there are numerous fine scuffs on both sides from taking the record in and out of the cover. Folkways records all came with a paper inner record cover and over time these tended to scuff the record. I have replaced the paper cover with a new plastic cover to prevent this from happening.  Both sides play LOUD and clear, but there is soft, low level surface noise audible on the run in tracks and between the tracks, and also in some of the quieter parts. I have graded the vinyl as G++ due to the scuffs, for the most part while the music is playing and while Memphis Slim is singing it plays as VG.  The cover is in great condition, it is a thick, black, finely textured cardboard over which the cover graphics have been pasted. It is clean front and back, there are no tears, splits or creases and the spine is still rigid and can be easily read in the shelf. However there are two small tears at the top of  the overlap front cover graphics, just to the left of the word "Memphis"(see photo 1) and for this reason I am grading the cover as VG-. There is a thick card board divider that fits into the outer cover to keep the record and the four page insert separate, This insert contains comments and song lyrics and this is in excellent condition, no tears or creases.(see photos 7 & 8)
