A VG+/VG 3 LP set: sides are quite clean though some slight paper scuff noted and scattered light needle mark seen; labels are very clean and bright; booklet is present, clean, and well-handled w/ a light scratch to ther rear cover; box is solid, spine legible and presentable, scuffing to the corners and chipping to the top edge.

PROVENANCE: We recently acquired the music library of a long-tenured NYC opera deejay Anthony Coggi ("A Seat on the Balcony," "The Operaphile," on WFUV). We've culled from his extensive record holdings a few hundred titles, LPs and boxed sets, which we'll list weekly at approximately 25 titles per go. If we've any success, the auctions will continue until the stock is exhausted. If not, we'll discontinue these auctions pretty quickly. Unsold items will not move over to our BIN list; they'll move downstairs to our brick-and-mortar second-hand shop.

CHARACTER & CONDITION: Almost exclusively operas, recitals, and highlights, all on LP. Some symphonic pieces as well as a few avant-garde recordings mixed in. Records date from the '50s through the '90s. Major labels and slanted toward a US market, so London, RCA, DG, Melodram, etc. Some sealed, most opened and played. Often small stickers to the upper left front of the sleeves (Coggi's filing mark), which have proven easily removeable. Sometimes, small ownership stickers (Coggi, "The Operaphile") near the same spot; these have proven less tractable. Sealed records often have the shrink torn at a corner to allow the insertion of a sticker; as such, even sealed records will be classified as "used" though nothing listed as sealed has been played. Many promos with stickers to the shrink, sleeves and/or labels. Some performer signatures, noted where relevant.

GRADING & PRICING: Experience with opera sales has convinced us that this sector of the used LP market is rather depressed. The records selected for these auctions seem worth a try, but the very modest returns on effort of previous sales have induced a rethinking of practices thus: record grading, for these items only, will be almost strictly visual; while the visual grading will be painstaking, it should not be taken as definitive. No records or sleeves will be graded M; even sealed items will rank no higher than NM. The bulk of the listings will fall between Ex and VG-. Additionally, I will not use the full complement of 12 images; in the interest of economy I'll select a representative label/side to stand for the whole. Finally, if a description of the sleeve overlooks one (or both) of Coggi's stickers, please remember that these were attached to most, if not all, of his sleeves.

PACKING & SHIPPING: We used dedicated record mailers, padded, and well-protected. Some boxed sets (and some older LP sleeves, e.g. DG's hard sleeves) don't quite fit the standard size mailer; rest assured, we'll improvise with an eye toward maximum protection during transit. Multiple-item purchases are, naturally, welcome. Shipping charges will be revised to reflect actual costs of transport. Should the auctions prove successful and their continuation seem warranted, we'll be happy to wait on payment from buyers hoping to accumulate several items over the course of multiple auctions.

For the US, we usually prefer to ship everything USPS priority mail or first class with a delivery confirmation number. Priority mail offers average 2-3 days delivery of shipment. Other methods of shipping are available upon request. Postcards, photos, and flat items will be shipped priority mail for best service. We will ship worldwide. PLEASE NOTE:international buyers please be aware of currency exchanges and we will assess shipping rates accordingly. If there are specific exporting problems involving the item that you won, let us know about this ahead of time please. For international buyers any additional costs, such as tax or duties will be incurred by the customer.
