The mighty Metallica formed in 1981, in LA, but soon thereafter relocated to the San Francisco Bay area, and has pretty much been there ever since. In 1983, they released their debut album, titled 'Kill 'Em All', on Megaforce Records. A year later, they were already on album number two! This year, (and this coming July), we celebrate FORTY years since the release of Metallica's second album, titled 'Ride the Lightning'! That metal masterpiece turns forty this July 27th. Almost there! In those forty years, the band has had trials and tribulations, and even the loss of an original member (Cliff Burton). But like any great band, they persevered. And they also made some amazing music along the way!
(RIP Cliff. You were a talented and influential bassist, who helped create some of Metallica's best loved and most important songs. You are still missed, all these years later!)
Today we shine a bright spotlight on that second studio album, and up for grabs today is a very rare and really cool import 12" picture disc LP! Made in the UK, this comes in a wild die-cut sleeve. The artwork is a beautiful blue. This picture disc has come out in a few different versions, with even a green one and a red one! I think the blue versions look the best...
The vinyl itself is looking great, and I only see a couple of very light surface marks on it. Nothing bad, and no heavy scratches, gouges, or scuffs. I can't vouch for the sound quality, as I never play specialty vinyl such as pic discs or colored records. The colors are still bright blue and white. The die-cut sleeve is in really good condition, too. There's a little shelf-wear on it, mainly on the corners and spine. Jacket overall is in very, very good condition!
I'll even add a great little bonus! You'll get a copy of the July 2013 issue of 'Revolver' magazine, with Metallica on the cover! It's the current lineup, and still going strong, in their FIFTH decade as a band! This issue is about the 2013 Golden Gods Awards ceremony, an awards show created for metal artists. It's got some great pics, and a really interesting article about the show (and Metallica's role in it). There's also features about Danzig, Anthrax, Stone Sour, Halestorm, and more! Mag is in great condition, with no pages torn or ripped out, or pages dog-eared or handwritten on. No address label, and that's always cool. Tiny bit of shelf-wear on the cover.
Bring home some Metallica today, with their forty year old classic, in rare picture disc form. These guys will rock your face off, and you'll maybe get a noise complaint against you. It's all good, though. Let the officers know it's Metallica. They just might jam out with you!
