For your consideration in this fixed price listing is an incredibly rare 12" LP "RACHMANINOFF SYMPHONY NO. 1 in D Minor, Op. 13, performed by the Stockholm Radio Symphony Orchestra under JACQUES RACHMILOVICH" on METRONOME (Sweden) CLP-508, from Metronome's almost mythical 'CLP series' of classical releases, that were issued from 1951 to 1953.
Very little is known of Metronome's CLP series and only earlier this year was I able to finally determine the complete discography of CLP issues. The first four releases were issued as 78 rpm sets, then they were re-issued (or simultaneously issued) in microgroove format. The discography runs from CLP-501 through CLP-519, with the issues of note, and almost the only LPs ever found, being the series of LPs recorded dedicated to the complete symphony cycle of Sibelius under Sixten Ehrling with the Stockholm PO and an incredible performance of the Sibelius Violin Concerto with Camilla WICKS (CLP-510).
This record, issued in 1952, is as new being lightly and carefully played. The labels are great and the spindle holes have no wear or marks. The jacket has only the expected light shelf wear with a small 1" split seam at the middle bottom, and is clean and unmarked. There is about 1" of the flip-top edge missing at the top left of the back of the cover. A choice and rare record!
