Born in London but raised in New York, Daniel 'MF Doom' Dumile thrust himself into rap notoriety with the release of his debut album Operation: Doomsday in 1999. As well as being a defining moment in MF Doom's career, the album is generally regarded as one of the most influential independent albums in the genre's history, its lo fi production and cartoon-villain concept leaving listeners yearning for a time gone by. This cassette edition features classics like 'Doomsday', on which MF Doom raps in an unhurried yet relentless cadence over a warm, nostalgic beat, announcing his arrival in ways that would strike fear into fellow MCs. On 'Go with the Flow' his rhyme schemes fall over each other like dominoes without ever escaping their pocket. Operation: Doomsday fulfilled its purpose: a warning to all involved that the game was about to change.
