From 1972, one of the most spiritual and profoundly moving albums in rock music (or any type of music for that matter), The Moody Blues' 'Seventh Sojourn'. Initially released on the band's very own record label (Threshold Records), it would become the group's last album before they all took a 6-year break from touring and recording as "The Moody Blues". Though by this time they had achieved a healthy measure of success, 'Seventh Sojourn' was a difficult record to complete; intense and non-stop touring had taken its toll on the group. However, the music on this record belies any problems members within the band were having. From the first song to the last, the recording and quality of the compositions are simply magnificent. It is, in one word, a masterpiece.
Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab released this title in a half-speed mastered audiophile version in August of 1984.* It is this highly regarded pressing that is on offer in this listing. Having bought and sold many copies of this title in the past I can comfortably say that it is by far the best sounding pressing of this album I've ever heard. The audio is perfectly balanced and seems to almost shimmer. There is amazing detail in the bass and acoustic guitars especially.
* Please note, there were 2 versions/pressings of this title released by MFSL. One was released in August of 1984 and the other was released almost a year later. The first release had a gatefold jacket made with heavy boards and had the artwork printed on high quality, slightly textured matte bond which was then glued to the boards. The record was also slightly heavier. The 2nd issue used a cheaper, "glossy" coated cardboard for the gatefold jacket and had the artwork printed right onto the boards. The colors are washed out and somewhat faded. The record inside was also slightly flimsier. Often, these 2nd issues have hole punches or saw-cuts. It goes without saying that after 35 years, it is becoming harder and harder to find first issues in perfect sealed condition.
