This is a rare Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs (MFSL) "Ultra-High Quality Record" (UHQR) of the Beatles' "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" (catalog number MFQR 1-100). This legendary audiophile LP was produced by Mobile Fidelity in Japan in 1982, and was limited to a production run of only 5,000 copies. This UHQR is number 1627.

This set is missing the single sheet "Certificate of Authenticity", but is otherwise complete. The information regarding the Limited Edition serial number that would have appeared on that certificate is duplicated on the back of the cardboard innersleeve, so the fact that the certificate is not present is not particularly important. 

The outer box on this UHQR has some damage. The top flap of the box cover is missing, and the other two corners of the box cover are split (see attached images). The lower portion of the box is in good condition, with corners intact.

I am not an expert on LP grading, but based on what I have read regarding the Goldmine standards, I would grade the LP in this set as VG+. It DOES have a few light marks that produce some minor clicks during some of the songs, and a bit of background noise during the quietest parts. The songs affected on Side 1 are the last portion of "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds", and a part of "She's Leaving Home". On Side 2 there are a couple of light marks that affects the end of "Within You, Without You" and the beginning of "When I'm Sixty-Four".

Before putting this very rare LP up for sale, I sent it to Cleveland Vinyl for a professional cleaning using their sophisticated ULTRASONIC record cleaning machines. Cleveland Vinyl (Audio Archives, LLC) also offers ultrasonic LP cleaning on eBay under the ID of "effgjm". After cleaning this UHQR LP, they put it in a brand-new Mobile Fidelity innersleeve to prevent any possible contamination from the original sleeve (I will also be including the original innersleeve). After the ultrasonic cleaning, the owner of Cleveland Vinyl, Greg Marquand, test-played this UHQR on his high-end, tube-based audio system, and in spite of the minor "flaws" that I have described previously, he said that the frequency response and dynamics on this UHQR are "incredible", and that the bass line in "Within You, Without You" is the deepest that he has ever heard for this recording. I have not played this LP myself since receiving it back from Cleveland Vinyl.

In spite of its imperfections, this UHQR is still an amazing listening experience. All in all, it is a good copy of a very-hard-to-find audiophile LP, and I have priced it WELL below what this UHQR typically sells for. You can expect to pay two or three times as much for one in significantly better condition. This is an opportunity to own this rarity at a reasonable price, or until you are able to acquire a nicer one.
