Description
This 2006 Mobile Fidelity release does justice to the "Father of the Tenor Saxophone", Coleman Hawkins' album, 'The Hawk Flies High'. Originally released on the Riverside label in 1957, it was considered a sort of "comeback" album of sorts; showcasing Hawkins incredible ability to play ferociously when needed or smooth and controlled on the slower numbers. Indeed, Hawkins set the standard on jazz ballad playing.
This Mobile Fidelity release (MFSL 1-290) is simply astonishing in its detail, clarity, and warmth. A rare occasion when the gorgeous melodies matches the stunning audio.
