Description

Initially released on the Verve record label in 1961, Gerry Mulligan's 'Live at The Village Vanguard' quickly caught the public's attention and earned 5 stars from Down Beat magazine the same year. Recorded in December, 1960 at The Village Vanguard in New York City, the multi-talented Mulligan headed the 'Concert Jazz Band', which turned out to be a short-lived but influential and fondly remembered ensemble.

In 1981, Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab obtained the rights to acquire the original stereo master tape (from Polygram Records) and create a new pressing using their unique half-speed mastered technology and rereleased it (MFSL 1-179) in an audiophile format. It was a blessing for fans and audiophiles alike. It is now considered to be the "definitive" pressing of this Verve classic. Just listen to the opening number (Blueport) and tell me if any other pressing comes close to capturing the energy, punch, and attack of this song. Surely one of MFSL's most highly regarded releases.
