MICHAEL GARRICK SEPTET - BLACK MARIGOLDS
1968 UK 1st press jazz rarity, direct from the legendary BBC record archive, with gleaming little played vinyl
Truly excellent plus (EX+) condition vinyl - completely flat, weighty and gleamy with a beautiful jet black sheen still. In normal daylight each side comes across as unmarked and even with close inspection under a bright light it is difficult to identify any marks at all. Clearly this is a record that has been sparingly played and well looked after. Excellent (EX) condition labels with just a couple of small and very faint spindle trails adjacent to the centre hole on each label, and on the side 2 label some innocuous tiny black dots - very trivial. Each label has the iconic "BBC GRAMOPHONE LIBRARY" stamp (see photos) which, for me, is the official mark of 1960/70's authenticity and only adds to the collectability of these prized LP's. The condition of the original Graphis Press outer sleeve is very good (VG) but I do urge you to look at my photos carefully since the sleeve has been re-laminated by the BBC and does contain BBC Archive stickers. All edges are firm and unscuffed, including a rigid spine with all spine text perfectly intact. A 5cm x 24cm sticker is attached to the front side underneath the re-lamination, along with a 9.5cm x 20cm sticker on the outside and a smaller sticker in the top left corner; and there are two further stickers on the reverse side on the outside of the re-lamination (see photos). All of the outside stickers are removeable, with care, but the sticker between the original LP lamination and the BBC re-lamination would be more difficult to remove. My view is why would anybody want to remove any of these stickers? For me they form an intrinsic component in the rich 56 year old story covering the origin and journey of this LP, which undoubtedly includes the handling of this record by BBC radio presenter luminaries - what a conversation piece! This LP was once part of what is generally agreed to have been the greatest record collection on earth - these stickers authenticate and rubber stamp that, and for that reason I for one would never want to remove any of them! Truly excellent plus (EX+) mono audio quality with no skips, jumps, repeats, sticks, clicks, distortion, interference or background crackle. Crystal clear stereo sound quality throughout with jazz greats such as Michael Garrick, Joe Harriot, Ian Carr and Don Rendell in great form. Comes with original red & white DECCA/Argo poly-lined inner sleeve with a single 3cm side seam split and some very mild age discolouration. Note that I always ship the record in a new plain white inner sleeve in order to protect the original. One of the most highly sought after and collectable UK 1st press LP's from this golden era of British jazz.

Note that I always insert the vinyl into a new plain white poly-lined inner sleeve in order to protect the original during postage, and separate this from the outer sleeve to prevent seam splits. I use thick cardboard stiffeners and take great care in my packaging to ensure as far as possible that these precious records reach their destination in exactly the same condition as when they leave me.
