Sellers on eBay call all kinds of common or garden records 'rare' in order to sell them. For fans of the golden age of British Modern Jazz (circa 1967 - 74), Michael Garrick's Mr Smith's Apocalypse (1971) is a really rare (and nowadays much sought after) record indeed.
CONDITION
Record VG
Visually, in daylight, the record looks to be in really excellent condition, with a nice sheen and no marks at all.
Visually, under a very bright light, again it looks wonderful with one small wispy mark and no other defects of any kind.
When played, however, there is some background noise throughout. It's hard to explain why a record that looks this good exhibits background noise but there you are. The music remains generally very clear and sharp and enjoyable. No clicks, pops or jumps.
Cover/Sleeve EX
It's a great gatefold sleeve in excellent condition with no lifting laminate (except a tiny amount on the spine itself). Just small creases at the edges. No edge wear. No ring wear. No writing. The front part of the gatefold is a little wavy.
Labels - EX - very little in the way of spindle marks. No writing etc.
Inner sleeve - EX - It's the original Decca/Argo inner sleeve in great condition
I use ‘Record Collector’ magazine gradings.
