Description

Here we have for auction a very cool and very rare lp record: WRIGHT & REIMAN childhood’s greatest hits – with cover-are by HOLY MODEL ROUNDERS michael hurley – on the small VERMONT indie label ROOSTER RECORDS [ RSTR 129 ] and released in 1986. this is a great and unusual children’s folk record, with the artwork making even better. – the artists are WILL WRIGHT and JIM REIMAN. the record features 22 songs: YANKEE DOODLE, skip to my lou, OLD JOE CLARK, pop goes the weasel, ALABAMA GIRLS, the fox, POOR LITTLE SUSIE/TEN LITTLE INDIANS, this old man, YOU ARE MY SUNSHINE, the bear went over the mountain, ABC’S / BAA, BAA, BLACK SHEEP, row, row, row your boat, GO TELL AUNT RHODY, london bridge, THREE BLIND MICE, frere jacques, JACK AND JILL, mary had a little lamb, BRAHMS’ LULLABYE, bock-a-bye-baby, ALL THE PRETTY LITTLE HORSES, and IT’S RAINING, IT’S POURING. here’s what someone online said this about this record: “Most kiddie musicians are, to be precise, yucky. These folkies are tart and spare as well as tuneful. They never force the cheer, never condescend, and never censor. If you want, they suggest you substitute "She tied up their tails, and played on her fife," but the lyric sheet for the all-instrumental sleepytime side has the original carving knife, and their dry vocals made me realize that the weasel pops the monkey in order to eat him. "Alabama Girls," "Skip to My Lou," "Row, Row, Row Your Boat," "Brahms' Lullabye," twenty-two sure shots in all, half wake-up sings, half instrumental lullabyes. I bet you don't own more than a few. And yes, the critic in the crib down the hall is almost as delighted to hear "Yankee Doodle" as she is "Ooh Poo Pah Doo" or anything by Madonna. /// the ROOSTER RECORD LABEL put out a handful of great obscure bluegrass, roots and folk records. everything i have heard is really cool. this record is no exception. they seem to have had a great scene going on up there around BETHEL, VERMONT. /// this lp and cover are both in excellent condition. also comes with a paper insert that has lyrics and lists other ROOSTER releases on the back. +++ NOTE: whatcheerrecords is the new site for whatcheerantiques, dedicated exclusively to records and other music-related items.
