UN HOMME EST MORT / ONYX BAR ... 7-inch, 45rpm OST single by MICHEL LEGRAND. Original French 1st pressing on the BELL label (2008 137), from 1972. Super-obscure and desirable French soundtrack grail. Like our Roland Vincent Delphine OST EP (also on auction right now) this killer double-sider is another pinnacle example of the genre. For sure, Legrand's funkiest and sleaziest moment on wax ;) The outstanding UN HOMME EST MORT theme is psychedelic funk with a particularly hostile ambience. Sleazy fuzz wah wah and syncopated basslines / aggressive hammond and punishing drum patterns capture the nervous and stylised mood of this Mafia themed crime thriller film, set in Los Angeles. The fuzzy electronic feedback in the background of UN HOMME EST MORT would appear to be part of the original recording as all original 45 pressings and even the Vadim reissue has it. Great for DJs. Booming production sound. The ONYX BAR theme is also superb. Groovy lounge cum funky sexploitation with female moans and groans / broken beats / fuzz guitar and fender rhodes solos. Tres cool mood music gleamed from the cult film, Un Homme Est Mort aka The Outside Man directed by Jacques Deray starring Jean-Louis Trintignant / Angie Dickinson / Roy Scheider and Ann-Margret. Sleeve art shows Jean-Louis Trintignant beside a fish-eye lens shot of downtown LA. Very rare OST 45!!!
Our record grading: SEALED / M- / VG++ / VG+ / VG
Vinyl is in shiny, strong VG++ condition (closer to M-) with a few hairlines and mini scuffs from storage. Some light surface noises. A few soft pops / ticks (as you can hear on the soundclip). Booming production sound. Item taken from an unplayed deadstock of records and played once for the recording of the soundclip. The soft card picture sleeve is in VG++ condition overall with some ring creasing / edge and corner wear. Archive numbers in pen to front and back sleeve (see photos). Very rare OST 45!!!
