This LP was originally release in 1979 solo album from the former Rolling Stones guitarist. After a period of personal and professional reassessment (he quit the Stones in 1974), Mick Taylor emerged from the shadows with his first solo album. Mix Stonesy Rock and Blues, with Jeff Beck's Blow by Blow and the resulting stew will sound something like Mick Taylor's eponymous debut. A great cast of musicians also show up to support Mr. Taylor, including Lowell George (Little Feat), Pierre Moerlen (Gong) and keyboardist Jean Roussell (Cat Stevens). I bought the vinyl in 1979 and wore it out. The cassette copy I made eventually died. Mick Taylor proves once and for all he was the most talented musician the Stones ever had. Too bad Keith Richards' petty jealousy didn't allow Mick Taylor to stay with this band. It is evident Goats Head Soup and It's Only Rock and Roll, particulary the cut Time Waits for No One (during the recording of which Mick set down his guitar and walked out of the studio) were Mick Taylor inspired works. Back in those days , however, Jagger and Richards slapped their names on everything the band did so Taylor never got the credit he deserved.

From the opening anthem Leather Jacket(a song no doubt aimed at Mick Jagger) all the way trough the final cut, Taylor showcases his talents, playing virtually every instrument on the LP. For something refreshing and a throw back to real music by a truly talented musician, this is a must buy!

A 'Tayle' of Two Sidemen: "When self-taught guitarist Eddie Taylor imparted his skills onto his friend Jimmy Reed, he surely couldn’t have imagined the effect this was to have on the Chicago blues scene. Backing up such luminaries as John Lee Hooker, he is best remembered for his work with his former student. Sweet coincidence, then, that in 1974 another Taylor, Mick, would make way for Ronnie Wood in the Rolling Stones, paving the way for these two friends and celebrated guitarists to work on projects ever since. The culmination of this to date is surely Taylor's place in The Ronnie Wood Band at the Royal Albert Hall for 2013’s Bluesfest, where they played the now-legendary set that would come to give birth to this recording."
