Midlake's fourth album Antiphon was the first since singer-songwriter Tim Smith departed. It saw the Texas band turn back to the sound of their earlier work with some filk tinged soft rock sounds and more colourful psychedelia making appearances. It is now a full decade since the album landed and if it wasn't clear back then, it is certainly clear now with hindsight just how ahead of their time they were. It was a return to form long player with plenty of shuffling beats and sticky guitars that mix up rock and folk and manage to sound like early Fleetwood Mac. Grammy-nominated Tony Hoffer took care of production which also helped stand this one apart.
