MIGHTY BOOSH - THE COMPLETE RADIO SERIES  EXCLUSIVE TO RECORD STORE DAY 2019  The complete award winning BBC Radio 4 comedy on 3 x 180g Boosh coloured vinyl  Original paintings by Noel Fielding, sleeve notes by Julian Barratt, Noel Fielding, Rich Fulcher and Danny Wallace    Episodes:  LP1 -  1 - STOLEN  2 - JUNGLE    LP2 -  3 - JAZZ  4 - MUTANTS    LP3 -  5 - TUNDRA  6 - HITCHER    The BBC's iconic Maida Vale Studios - just a short walk from London's Abbey Road and home to culturally historic recordings from the Beatles to Bing Crosby to David Bowie (singer/songwriter) - was the perfect place to record a radio series like The Boosh. Unfortunately, we weren't allowed to do it there, and also, its prohibitively expensive. So imagine, if you will, a cave. A dank, sparse, windowless room with the overpowering and inexplicable semll of foxes. It's in London's Shoreditch, which is cool now, but was mainly people getting mugged back in the early 2000s. In the room next door to this cave, silent young men sit at fax machines, pumping out spam faxes to be sent to minor regional managers all over the globe. A strange long dog called Red keeps barking, and these barks will easily penetrate the bits of velvet and old blankets that Noel has tried pinning on the walls of the Boosh cave as rudimentary studio sound proofing, never having worked in sound proofing before, and having little grasp of how sound proofing might really work. Julian sits bleary-eyed at an old grey computer looping the sound of the Spirit of Jazz over and over, almost hypnotised, and having forgotten what he was trying to do in the first place. Noel saunters in, fresh off the bus and having walked down the Kingsland Road dressed as a red leather cowboy. Soon, American gentleman Rich Fulcher will walk in, and further prove Noel's future in the soundproofing industry more than improbable. And I'm there too, with equipment I've nicked off the BBC, resassuring the bosses that honestly, absolutely everything was fine and there was definitely nothing to worry about. We'll recordin in the morning. At lunchtime, we will go to Titanic, the cafe next door and eat chips off polysterene plates. Then we'll record or talk or open some wine. Read some spam faxes. An done day soon, the show will be broadcast on BBC London (then called London Live). The station will inexplicably decide the show should be played at midday on a Saturday - right between lots of men talking about football - because that is the best time for its audience of mainly white-van men to enjoy a show abou two zookeepers searching for a big egg in the Arctic. And juts a few years later - after Radio 4 and TV have made sure the boys will never have to work in a cave again - I'll stand at the back of a packed out Brixton Academy and watch them unleash the Boosh on a screaming audience - many of whom have left their white vans at home and in fact come dressed as two zookeepers searching for a big egg in the Arctic. The days in that cave were really special. Hard work and big laughs.
